Default The Wave

Ok people I have a question about the wave.

It is usually left hand down, with two fingers extended.

What does this represent?

To me it is an acknowledgement of fellow riders riding on two wheels.

I checked the book for White People Throwing Gang Signs. It says that it means, "Hey, you've got a cool bike and I've got a cool bike and we're just out cruisin' and livin' life."

Really, I don't know. If my son asked, I guess I'd tell him, "It's a wave that has evolved especially for riders, regardless of who you are or what you ride. It's a unique wave for unique people."

This girl I was dating about three years ago did that. I instantly pulled off the road, turned the bike off, sat there for a few seconds and then asked her, "What the hell was that?!?!" I told her, "You can't wave like that. There's no coolness factor in that (I did an exaggerated wave like I was a 5 year old on my first ever bike ride). Please don't take a turn to dork town."

From there on she waved the correct way.

I usually give the two finger wave, over here it means Two Wheels rule, irrespective of format, type or brand.

When you pass someone on a bike you put the two fingers out to the side. We also have a hazard sign, if you pat the top of your helmet, it tells other riders they may heading into a hazard such as, pants road surface, police speed trap, slow moving traffic etc.

In Belgium, when riders wave at each other, they do a scooping motion, whilst getting the hand as close to the road as possible, It is pretty cool actually.

Some other nations stick a leg out.

It's all cool, it's all about kindred spirits.

I always wave. I usualy give the two fingers kind of pointing down. I have notice of the past few years that I get more waves from people on Harleys. Now it is rare to not get a wave back from them. It used to be rare to get one from them.

What does this {the wave} represent {to you}?

Not asking who all waves.

The wave (left hand) is used for riders coming the other way.

The right foot is used when passing other riders going the same direction as you.

And basically, the wave means, "yea, we're cool, and those idiots in the cages will never understand what they are missing..."

We don't do the leg waving thing, pretty pointless really as we are driving on the correct side of the road....

I love to wave. I remember being younger and me and my family were behind a motorcycle for a while and every time he passed another he would wave. I just remember thinking how cool that was and I wanted one just so I could wave.

On my first ride I passed someone and I was so excited that I got to wave. I did it all cool and then when he got past, I just grinned for a while. Haha. Kinda cheesy but thats how it was.

FWIW I wave. I use the two-finger salute. It's rare when I don't get a wave back. The only times I don't get one back are when they just didn't see me ( looking at something else at the time ).

Agree with buster about being on the right side of the road LOL.
Down here in Nottingham its usualy a nod of the head if the rider is coming the other way and use the left hand wave if you are passing the rider.
I think of a wave or nod as a sign of comaderie between two wheeled riders on the road.
