Default 30 Minutes Ago

I was out for my after noon walk, run but mostly walk, when my buddy stops to visit, he's on his bike. A few minutes after he leaves and I'm back to my exercise, my phone rings, it's my friend, he needs me to come meet him down the road with a legal helmet. I run home, grab a helmet , jump in my truck and go meet him and the state trooper who's waiting with him. It turns out I have to ride his bike home because he doesn't have a motorcycle endorsement and he was speeding on top of not wearing a legal helmet. On the bright side I did get to ride his Night Train home.

Default Your friend is lucky to have you around.

I have heard stories of folks who get caught without a permit or M endorsement and have had their bikes towed. Once on the impound lot some nice scratches have appeared on bikes.

No helmet
No endorsement
Speeding.

Yup, I think that classifies him as an idiot.

Some learn the hard way.

The Trooper only ticketed him for the lack of endorsement, it turns out the same trooper stopped him about three weeks ago for the illegal helmet, but let him go. I'm thinking this is the nicest Trooper I've ever met, he could have had the bike towed.

life is strange; on no less than 3 occassions, I myself, got off without a ticket.

Too long a story, but there are cases where, if you are cooperative, the cop will not write a ticket.

This includes a left turn on red. That's right, a left turn. Legal nowhere.

That silly endorsement doesn't make one a better rider, IMO. It just makes you "legal."

As far as his helmet is concerned, it's his head. I wish the gov't would learn to leave people alone when it comes to personal safety.

WRT the speeding . . . let he among us who is without sin cast the first stone.

How'd he get home? Please say he didn't have to ride %%%%% on his own bike.

Did you dog his bike?

What kind of helmet requirements do you have over there? What would make it illegal?

Most states with a helmet law require that you have a DOT or SNELL approved helmet. Many riders wear "novelty" helmets, which are not safe for street use - they are purely cosmetic.

Oh..Ok. Don't think I have ever seen one that wasn't DOT. Even the 29.95 ones are. You mean novelty like a Mickey Mouse helmet?

The catalogs here are full of "novelty" helmets, which carry a big "NOT SAFE FOR STREET USE" warning label.

EUR 29.95 - "No ECE" means not approved for street use.

My friend's dad rides a Harley. He once showed me a Skull Skillet with a fake DOT sticker, as if he were "getting away" with something cool. THe conversation went something like this:

Him: "The cops have no way of knowing, heh-heh."
Me: "No, but the paramedics will figure it out right off the bat."

I guess I don't understand if yu don't want to wear a helmet thats fine as long as it legal. But why if forced to wear a helmet would you wear one that does nothing to protect you? I'm just not geting to cool factor in that or I'm just not enough of a Rebel to try to trick the cops on that one.

I wouldn't be caught dead in that helmet. Wait, maybe I would if I crashed wearing it.
