Default Goverment departments at work

Just reading MCN online and there is a story about a bike rider who has just been informed by DVLA that he was granted M/C license by mistake.
Heres the link.

come on clint... there are protocols to follow that guide the other protocols in which are loosely related to some other protocols in which everyone goes and gets coffee and doughnuts

I think they should have a meeting to discuss the letter. That could be followed by another meeting, which could be followed by another meeting. If someone could just figure out when to schedule the first meeting they could actually have a meeting about it.

As a government worker, I must say that I am appalled. To think that a government organization would actually have records from over ten years ago makes me sick. They have damned near RUINED the stereotype that we work so hard to maintain!!!

Speaking of government work, here's my honest-to-God take, as a person who has rotted at this desk for almost 6 years. This job is another form of welfare. Seriously, it's just income redistribution. That's why you get nothing for your money (just like welfare).

Let me tell you how it works (at least in this building): People with menial jobs (no offense to anyone here) are paid about twice what they'd get in industry and people with valued skillsets are paid about 75% of what they'd get in industry. "Why?" you might ask? Partly due to discrimination, partly due to the inherent characteristics of a system that rewards incompetence (i.e. once you get a building full of idiots, one of them has to lead and then you have an idiot for a leader). So, you've got engineers making 10 grand more than secretaries. The problem with such an unbalanced system is that you get turnover in the positions where you really need continuity and you get complacency in positions that could easily be turned over for efficiency.

At least the checks don't bounce.

I know some people who work for the BIS (Bank for International Settlements).

Basically, the BIS is a bank for banks - when one bank needs a chunk of money for something, it can go to the BIS to organize a loan through other banks. All completely legal, and very anonymous. This way, US banks can "borrow" money from Iranian and Saudi banks and still claim to be "good Americans", since the money is borrowed anonymously through the BIS.

Anyhow, the BIS is considered to be "international", not Swiss. People who work in the BIS do not pay income taxes. At all. What they earn, they keep.

We had one BIS employee apply for a job at my company. When we asked him what he would like for a salary, he said he would like to keep his current income level, if possible. Taking into account that he would now have to pay taxes, we would have to pay him $200,000 a year (as a Windows server operator), just so he would still have the same "quality of life".

Needless to say, we never came to an agreement with him...

In Illinois, even that may not be true!

Damn idiot politicians.

Get this one.....similar to the OP.........
In my county there was some kind of a screw up and for, it appears, about a year some 10 YEARS AGO, the DUI convictions were not sent to the Sec. of State for processing of license suspensions.

So guess what? Now the records have been found and sent it. Because of the way the law is written, the Sec. of State says he has no choice to suspend the licenses of these prople NOW........for an offense 10 years ago.
They won't give an exact number but it appears to be about 20 people affected.

In my lovely state, we are blessed to have an abundance of both corrupt and stupid politicians. I think I'd take corrupt..........given a choice.

Yes, at least corrupt politicians can be taken at face value. A stupid one is a pig in a poke.
