Unhappy R.I.P Rosco

Today at 7:15pm the family lost a loved one. Rosco the dog was ran over and killed by a car . Here is the quick story. He showed up at our house in October 2006, and like my daddy taught me I tried to run him off, but there was something different about this stray versus others. He showed a keen sense of loyalty, and obedience to me so we took him in. I think he was a Blue Healer mixed with a Shepherd. He was a great dog always alerting us of visitors, various animals crossing the property, and people taking to long to pull out of the road next to the house. I wished you all could have heard him go off on a Coyote. As a good pet owner I have spent the past hour digging a hole in the poring rain to bury him in his favorite spot (the woods). Cherish your pets along with your loved ones because they are part of the family too. RIP Rosco you will be missed...

I've seen two dogs killed at my folks' lake cabin in the last few years, one theirs, one a friend of mine's. It's a sad thing, that's for sure.

Thanks guys.....note to anyone who has to dig a grave in the woods. When you hit a root take the time to get an axe. I used a shovel to cut thru them. Today it feels like my right shoulder has been hit with a shovel.

FWIW

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

I've been fairly lucky that none of my dogs have been hit by cars. Let's hope he passed quickly.

Sorry for the loss.

Just got this. Sorry to hear about your pooch. Some of the lowest points in my life have involved burying dogs.

I'm like you: when the pet dies, it gets a decent, timely burial, regardless of the weather.

RIP Rosco
