Default Any Tips for Me?

Yes...

TAKE IT EASY!

Don't try to "impress" anyone at the dealership by taking off like a bat out of hell or anything...

Don't be too proud to "Duck walk" the bike when going very slow and trying to turn...riding w/ your feet up will come, but that's why I dumped my first bike the first time.

Remember that the tires are going to need to be "scuffed" to get the factory protectant off of them before you really try to lean too far in corners, etc. It's helpful if when you're going straight to swerve the bike back and forth (around manhole covers, etc) to start getting the sides rubbed in.

Take it to a parking lot (or my favorite...a big cemetery) to practice on it and get used to how it feels.

Wear your gear...always...all of it...

HAVE FUN...you're a "biker" now!!

Unfortunately, many new bikers will find themselves right back there.

Absolutely get your gear NOW if you haven't already. SG said practice, and you WILL need to do that. Deserted parking lots are a great place to start. Try and find a mentor to help you out.

Not some testosterone-laden 21-year-old kid with a GSX-R 1000 who "thinks" he is the %%%% because of the bike he owns. Find someone who has some years of experience and that will be able to give you some constructive advice on how to ride safe, smart and smooth.

Also, because of your engine cc size, you will hear a lot of BS regarding the bike. That is what it is, BS. Don't let it get you down. You are the smart one buying that bike, and will be a better rider because of it. I started out on a 500, and that was the best move I ever made. The 500 is capable of a LOT more than people give it credit for.

Just remember, a slow rider on a fast bike is still SLOW! Break that one out when the "boyz" try and bust your chops. Just because you have a big bike doesn't mean squat.

Don't know if you've ever ridden before or not but try & "remember your awareness level the first time you enter traffic ."

Heck, I even noticed ants on the ground . Well, not all of 'em at least but it was definitely an experience & something to try & maintain every time you mount your bike.

Yeah, right......don't look at the ground!

Just use your Spider Sense to detect oil spots, gravel & sand .

DON'T TARGET FIXATE. Look where you want to go, not where you DON'T want to go. Don't freak out if you're going to hit a bump while you're in a turn/curve (just keep the throttle and your position steady).

If you can't think of any parking lots near you that get empty, go to the nearest school, after hours and on weekends. Those are great! (I'll have to try SG's cemetary suggestion.. )

Remember S.E.E. (Search Evaluate Execute). Stay in YOUR comfort level, not your friends'.

And last... Grin a lot inside your helmet...Shout a couple of "YEAH!!!'s" when you get that little thrill as you're riding... have fun, and be safe!

P.S. But do you mind reducing the signature picture???

I would say to start out with reasonable expectations. By that I mean don't expect to jump out on a busy road day one. There's a number of riding skills you'll need to develop that just flat out take time. In terms of a good strategy when starting out, check out the following link

http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/school-SectionFive.htm

they definitely have some good tips there.

Enjoy.
