Sorry to hear about your Dad, Annie. 88's fairly old, and if he was ready to go, well, that's certainly a blessing in and of itself. Too many people leave before they are ready.

WRT his "born-again" curmudgeonry . . . don't let something like that get you down. Old folks have historically exercised their right to %%%%%, and your Dad had every right to enjoy that perk of old age. If his zest for complaints resulted in some people distancing themselves, I'm sure he knew it and I'm sure he knew why. As we see the clock winding down, I'm sure we all feel compelled to do what we can to emphasize our opinions. He was no different. Just don't dwell on that, and try to steer your siblings away from dwellign on it.

WWII vet? He's got a right to %%%%%.

RIP Annie's Dad.

OMG, Annie!
So sorry to hear about your loss!

I lost my mom last Sept. too and I thought I was losing my dad this time.....
Fortunately, he can be with me for a bit more....although I am not sure for how long.

The loss of parents is tough, especially if you had been close to them as a child (I was).

But don't condemn yourself about not being with him more. Take care.

Annie...

My most sincere condolences.

DO NOT berate yourself for not seeing him often enough, he went upstairs and you can bet your last breath he KNEW how much you ALL loved him, and as Landry says a WWII Vet. he was one of the few people on this planet who is actually entitled to %%%%% and grump, and I for one hope he was a master at it!

As an ex-serviceman (of 27 years) I salute you father and offer you my warmest regards.

Be happy Cookie-girl, it's what he would want.

This is for everyone that has ever lost someone close to them. You will always regret not doing more with them before they died. It doesn't matter if you saw them everyday or not. You will always have those thoughts cross your mind that you should have done this or should have done that. Now stop for just a minute and think of the most happiest time you had with them!!!! Now smile, because it's ok to laugh when you are sad. You will always have regrets but without regrets you wouldn't be able to make life better. I lost my dad right after i just turned 17. I am 33 now and i still have regrets. But i will always remember that with death there is still life. Make your life better, go out, live, dream!!!! Just take it one day at a time. So when you leave this world you don't leave here with any regrets. Ride safe and take care!

My condolences. I can understand what you're going through having lost my father in similar circumstances about 8 years ago....My father couldn't talk and didn't have his full faculties when he passed away but still I couldn't help but feel bad...

Hang in there Annie, after some time the loss won't hurt as much. And thankfully, we can always cherish the memories we have of them.

Sorry to hear that. Good words of wisdom as a reminder to not take for granted the ones you love. May you find peace with the loss soon.

Go hug your parents while you can....

i'm sorry to hear about your father.
so cool that the military honored him the way he should be.
i do that for the air force. well not for the air force...but for my base.
i just did funeral honors yesterday.
6 man flag fold...and 21 gun salute.
so..its an honor to do this for vets =]
don't regret!! you loved him...all that matters.
