| that was the revolutionary war; the country was close to bankruptcy, we couldn't afford to pay the military and had we not won the battle of Yorktown we'd be in the same boat as Canada.

| Canada is in a different boat than us; more socialistic, more gov't regulated. Which, when times are bad as they are now, looks tempting. At least to some it does. The downside is that Canada was basically considered a colony of the UK. Great Britain finally allowed it to be an independent country in 1964.

| GB didn't have a choice in the matter. Canada was going it's own way weather the Brits liked it or not. In a ceremonial gesture the queen signed the paper work, I don't think that it meant that much to most Canadians,,,, the paperwork that is. |
