I'm not saying anything one way or another but it seems to me that you only get spanked for political discussion if it's something negative...

A conversation can be civil and still have elements of negativity. Why do you mention it?

I did a search for one of the quotes too and ended up with pages and pages of links, a few which got a little disturbing with their points of view. It reminds me of the fact that you can say anything on the internet (what's new) ands it's not what you say (facts) but how well you say it (fiction.)

Landry, concerning your 2nd from last post, you're right on all counts. [I type slow]

Sorry, off topic, I know.

Oh I just remember getting spanked for either a thread or reply to something which was civil and getting spanked by one of the mods..

Er.... us it's called the Channel Tunnel. It allows us to pander to the wishes of those we either defeated or liberated..

ER, Meat, I was referring to the American Indians, we may also want to ask Mexico if they want Texas back.

Clint, I agree with you.

To everyone that complains about jobs going oversees or down south when was the last time you paid more for a shirt simply because it was made in the USA or ate shrimp caught by American fisherman?

Yeah, AZ, we're human. As such, we're not entirely consistent.

Well said, Al. I'm sure I'm guilty as well, though I do boycott Walmart.

<-- At any rate, doesn't this look like someone you can trust?

Rowdy, your response to Sgt. Mikes post was both insulting and condescending. Whether you choose to honnor the past or not. Generations of U.S. citizens gave their all to preserve freedom in the world. Sadly, whether you choose to believe it or not, they have been treated like crap by the benefiting nations and have a valid point in being a tad bitter.

As to the other stuff. I agree that the country won't disintegrate in the next few years. However, great parenting skills and personal morals aren't the be all, end all. The rapid elimination of the blue collar middle class is going to cause a major economic change is our country. It will take decades to re-adjust education and job training to even come close to breaking even.

Even in your market of custom built homes, I predict that the next 10 - 15 years might be tough. Heck, the last building trend went longer than I thought it would by nearly five years. The people who can afford to, and banks that are willing to put up the money for single family houses in the $250K - 1M range are going to become more scarce. There are only so many jobs for investment bankers and IT people. Not to many Burger King managers or carpenters are going to be buying custom homes.

That's perfectly fine that you think so. I find the responses allegedly given by those in the original post to be insulting and condescending (as well as embarrassing to our nation), and I find Mike's post to be in defiance of repeated requests that he not post politics here.

Don't think for a minute that my opinions are anything against our veterans. It's a flagrant and hurtful misinterpretation to say so. I have as much appreciation for them as any civilian is capable of. Criticism of the behavior of our country at times is an altogether different subject.

I think the blue collar middle class was unfortunately for us, a somewhat short lived trend in this country that is quickly coming to an end.

brought to you by......well I should write the book "the luckiest generation" but that could be a whole 'nother thread.

The way I see it no nation is innocent. Did not the Indians commit atrocious acts against other Indian nations? Mexico may want a good portion or America back but are they innocent? Last time I was in Mexico I observed the poorest of the poor, rejected and scorned, happened to be Indians. How did Mexico become a nation? The Spanish conquered the Indian tribes, "civilized and christianized" them, then the French and lastly the Americans took what was left. What about Canada? Was Canada a wide open unpopulated land mass? Or were there small nations of people that were "conquered"? Australia, uuhh Aborigines? America is in no way innocent and all of our bedfellows have committed the same atrocious acts.

Nations are built and grow by the conquering of other nations and destroying the people of that nation. Genocide is as old as man himself. Look at our recent past and the nations that, given the opportunity, would have conquered the world. Hitlers Germany, Japan, USSR (soon to merge with Belarus and in a few years take back control of Ukraine) just to name a few.

I see and understand what Sgt. Mike is doing. He loves this nation, has defended it putting his life on the line, which I greatly appreciate!! Our media is filling our minds with everything that is bad in our great country. Often I wonder if anything good is happening because good acts are rarely reported and quite frankly I am sick of it. Talk about propaganda, just read the paper and it is easy to see that anti American sentiments prevail between the pages.

I live in America, I love it here, it is the only nation I have and I am proud to be an American. Seems like that is a crime these days. I am thankful that I was not born in any So. American nation, Arab nation, African nation, India, China, USSR, etc... This is where the opportunities lie and can be taken advantage of. Freedom still reigns here but is waining.

Well, guess I had better stop my rant. Sorry for the long post but just felt the need to comment. Go ahead and bash me for my pro American sentiments, I expect it these days.

In my ho hum everyday job I speak to a minimum 30 people a day. At least 3 times a week I speak to one of our fine and brave Military personal. Almost 100% of the time I hear positive remarks about what they are doing and how progress is being made. The opposite from what goes on the news stations here. If you want break it down to the local level. Watch a news cast and 80% if the time is telling you about all the bad things, 5% weather, 3% sports, 5% celebrity gossip and 2% about some crazy Ronco product to peel potatoes, or hair spray to cover bald spots.

We live in the greatest Country in the world, defended by the best people in the world. Yes the US has made mistakes but we have also saved a lot of people from very bad situations. How would the world look today if we would had stayed home and not risked American lives in WWI and WWII. Heck we may be speaking German now.

Sometimes I think, What if the world was run by 2 year olds? We would fight over something for a few seconds, not remember what it was about 10 seconds later, and find another toy to play with.

We deal with other countries like a father speaking to his 4 yr old child. American tourists traveling overseas tend to be condescending and patronizing instead of respectful and honoring of local custom and tradition.

We stopped tyranny in the 40s but have turned our back on the Africans and the North Koreans. Even if your reading list is limited to magazine inserts in the Sunday paper you know what is going on but we ignore it. We wrap ourselves in the American flag and trumpet the glories of the past instead of taking responsibility for what we are not doing now.

How is questioning what we do being UnAmerican?

Blindly accepting authority is condemning yourself to blind obedience.

Questioning what we do is American, believing everything your hear on either side of the argument may not be too smart ( I had to tone it down). In other words everybody has there opinion but I do believe that way too many opinions are based on what other people tell them instead of looking at the situation themselves. After reviewing things you are FREE to come to your own conclusions. It is also what makes this country great! Its that so many people become outspoken on a subject just because it is the popular thing to do(again in my opinion). Prime example HOLLYWOOD.

Words of wisdom, those.

Again, I meant no disrespect to our veterans, but it's likely that those events never even happened, and if they did I'm not proud of them.

No body and I mean no body sends more aid to other countries than the US. As for Africa you saw how much they appreciate us when Bush was there two weeks ago, they love the US, almost all their food and medical aid is paid for by the US. That's not mentioning all the private orgs. that leave their easy way of life here and go volunteer in some of the most dangerous places in the world. I want to acknowledge the Brits, Canadians and Australians as well, because where you find one you generally find the other three.
