To me, it is anathema, peoples lack of vocabulary and diction skills within the English speaking communities.

Okay I'll stop being a twat now!

Anathema (in Greek Ανάθεμα) meaning originally something lifted up as an offering to the gods; later, with evolving meanings, it came to mean:

to be formally set apart,
banished, exiled, excommunicated or
denounced, sometimes accursed.

The word Twat has various meanings, dependent upon regional dialect. Although its meaning in English is usually that of 'idiot' or 'stupid/idiotic/tasteless' (male person), it is understood in America (and elsewhere) as a vulgar synonym for the human vulva,[1] vagina, or clitoris, and is used as a derogatory epithet.

There did I pass.

Absolutely, with aplomb.

Reading the Oxford explanation is both verbose and boring..However, in modern english, anathema has also come to mean "beyond logical or reasonable understanding".

And 2 spot on. (Although a 'Twat' is actually a very young fish)

and to close with one of my favourite sayings.... "every day is a school day"

Longest word in an English dictionary.
Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantyssili ogogogoch. The longest single word place name in Europe

Which reminds me...........

Two tourists were driving through Wales.
As they were approaching Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantyssili ogogogoch
they started arguing about the pronunciation of the town's name.
They argued back and forth until they stopped for lunch. As they stood at the counter, one tourist asked the blonde employee,"Before we order, could you please settle an argument for us?
"Would you please pronounce where we are... very slowly?"
The blonde girl leaned over the counter and said,
"Burrrrrrrr, gerrrrrrr, Kiiiiing."

[edit: For some reason the forum will not display it as a single word ]

[ The place name translates to: “St Mary's Church in the hollow of white hazel near a rapid whirlpool and St Tysilio’s church near the Red Cave”. ]

Classic old joke. I think the word thing may be worth a thread. Educational and something else to waste time on.

Here you go Buster.

"Taumatawhakatangihangakoauauotamateaturipukakapik imaungahoronukupokaiwhenuakitanatahu", which translates roughly as The summit where Tamatea, the man with the big knees, the climber of mountains, the land-swallower who travelled about, played his nose flute to his loved one. At 85 letters, it is one of the longest placenames in the world.

Good catch!

Is it Hawaiian?

I seem to remeber a Pop song some years ago that had someone chanting that place name in the background. I'll see if I can find it..
