I often see those silly marches in Freiburg, Germany. "Free Tibet", "Stop the War in Iraq", "Independent Kurdistan" and others. I always think the same thing ... no one in south-western Germany can or will do a freaking thing about Tibet, Iraq or Kurdistan. We are simply trying to get through our daily lives. If you want to protest, fine. But don't waste your (and my) time doing it in the middle of a college town on a Saturday!

You want to stop the war in Iraq? Go protest on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington DC!

You want to free Tibet? Go protest in Peking! No one here can help you!

You want an independent Kurdistan? Fine! Go march on Ankara, Turkey! No one in Freiburg is going to create that state for you!

Whatever you do, get far away from me!

Absolutely, and if you want to get rid of British nuclear weapons, protest in London @ Downing St.

LOL! There was a report on the radio this morning that some German politicians are trying to get the USA to remove their nuclear weapons from Germany, because there have been reports of lax security around these warheads.

Every time a politician comes up with something like this, I'm wondering what he's trying to hide. Waving arms and pointing at the US military just means that he's trying to feed the media while he's busy hiding some bodies or sweeping something else under the rug.

Summertime bugs, mainly June bugs. I was riding yesterday evening, it was nice out, and I had my face shield cracked open to the first notch. A big fat Junebug will not fit thru the 3/8 inch gap at 60 mph. Well, it did go thru, in one big splat. It was nasty. Of all the places it could have hit.

between our remaining icbm's, the subs, and the old timey b 52's, it kind of raises a good point the relevance of them over there.

and the politician would have a good point if it weren't for ulterior motives as mentioned.

Protest in Peking, I like that one. Don't think it would get very far.

I usually leave the visor open "a crack" unless I'm on the Autobahn. I've had several insects that find that 1/8" of space - sometimes the whole insect, and sometimes just body parts. But yes, it is kinda gross when you hear "splat" and then feel something hit your face.

I got peppered yesterday riding through a mile long swarm of gnats with my half helmet. But it did have its exfoliating benefits.

In lawshave come down for a visit. They now occupy the guest bedroom, the computer room, and the living room. My daily post work relaxation routine has been shot to hell.

There is a reason that your wife's mother is called "monster in-law".

Was riding the other day down the highway, some slow pokes were hogging the road, I finally had an opening to pass so I kinda gunned it to get by ( must have been 100-110 for a minute before I slowed back down ) and just as I'm screaming by BOOM!!! a huge beetle smacks my face shield, I couldn't really see anything now. I had to pull over and wipe it off before I could continue. My ears are nearly still ringing from the loud sound it made.

I was riding behind my wife yesterday evening, and I saw a dove fly up from the side of the road, she ducked and it caught the very top of her helmet and bounced upwards in a puff of feathers, but kept flying. I was proud of her for not dumping the bike over or even getting out of her lane. She handled it nicely for only a couple thousand miles under her belt. We were going about 60 mph too.

Not to take away from your story or anything....but I thought I was going to have a similar encounter with a Buzzard last week.

Sumb1tch was eating something foul alongside the road, and the car in front of me startled him. He didn't want to give it up, so he waited to the last minute to take off. He barely was able to get out of the way of the car, and I saw him lift just before impact with the windshield. As odd as that was...even odder, he didn't give up the meal. Usually, they reluctantly leave it, and come back....Not this sucker.

My minds eye saw him smash the window and careen out of control over the top of the car and directly into my helmet and chest....covering my view, and filling my nostrils with the smell of rotten flesh, with feathers everywhere, and the requisite pounding I'd take from a large struggling animal. Not to mention the shredding my jacket would take from the claws.

Luckily, that didn't happen, but my mind played it out that fast, and I steeled myself for the impact. He didn't hit the car, but he barely got by me on the ten o'clock side. I was revolted by the fact I might get some of the "drippings" of his lunch on me somehow, but again, he got by me on the side. I could smell it as he went by too.....made me want to puke in my mouth a bit.

The only divine plan is to kill us all... and slowly the plan is working.

There was an article about a doctor here who helps in assisted suicides. One of the comments was "life is a sexually transmitted disease with a 100% mortality rate."

I lucked out there. She has odd notions about things but is in general a real sweetheart. And it helps that her other son in law is a tool.
