Default your first bike

Sup guys...

I have been trying to save up for a motorcycle for so long now... but it seems painfully slow... How did you guys save up money/make money to buy your first bikes? Any suggestions?

I have not funded my bike with a loan either so I know how it is. It's a better feeling

Financing a new bike ... lets see:

1) Go into a local supermarket, in the fruits and vegitables section.
2) Pick up a ripe banana and drop it on the floor (when no one is looking),
3) Step on the banana, and do a backflip while screaming
4) Sue them for $5,000,000 for the pain and suffering caused by their negligence.
5) Settle the case out of court for $10,000.

Take the $10,000 and buy a bike, gear and take the MSF course.

Hope that helps

On a more serious note (bananas, good one), after high school and before starting college, I got a job. At a construction/mod project on an oil refinery in Convent, La. Money was supposed to be for college, but some of it managed to slip out of my account and land in the palm of a guy who was trying to sell everything he owned to afford his last year of college. Nobody ever said your first had to be brand new.

Aside from that, reaching middle age definitely has a few perks. Cheaper insurance rates. Decent credit.

Well, I sold a few things that were less important to me at the time on eBay. Cashed out a life insurance policy (could be considered ironic, or subliminally clever), and did the rest on credit. Oh yeah, and took a partial loan off my 401k.

Sorry 'bout the horse. My father has a small horse ranch in upstate South Carolina. I've discovered I much prefer horses when I don't have to feed them and muck stalls.

I did the same thing as maniacmedia...sold off everything I could find that I didn't use or didn't want as much as a bike.

Buy a small CC, used motorcycle, something that is not so expensive and that you can get around on. Or you can do what I did. I bought my first bike in 1988 from a drug dealer who lost his license. I was in college with NO money I traded a Gibson Flying V and $100 for a 1986 Interceptor 500. Bike was worth $1,800 at the time (maybe more).

Good deals are out there. You just have to know how to ferret them out.
