| Well the wife went for one of her many follow ups with the Orthopedic Surgeon last week and he told her that she had exceeded his expectations and that she didn’t need to come back to see him any more. For those of you who aren’t aware of what this is about back in June while pruning one of our big Oak Trees my wife misjudged the capabilities of branch. It broke and she fell 20 feet to the ground, not on our nice soft grass, no she hit the driveway. She broke 2 vertebra, her pelvis in 2 places, hairline fracture in the ball of her hip, 1 bone on the top of her foot and shattered her heel. The heel was so bad that it took 9 screws and a plate in the span of less the 3 inches to put it back together. While waiting for the swelling to go down so they could operate she developed a pressure ulcer the size of a quarter on the back of her heal that went clear to the bone. We were told from the beginning that this was a life changing injury and that she would probably never walk right again. So when the doctor made this pronouncement on the day before Thanksgiving we were too distracted making preparations for the holiday for this news to set in. As we were relaxing in the living room on Thursday night and I watched my wife get up to go do something it hit me. We, are, so, screwed. I am going to try to find a specialist and get a second opinion, but as it stands right now it looks like we will need to file for disability and unemployment. This is not good, not good at all. |
