| Anyone have any cool surprise anniversary stories? It's coming up to our 8th wedding anniversary in a couple weeks and I'm trying to get some ideas but have a semblence of a plan coming together. I have our babysitter ready to come and take care of the kids overnight and the plan would be to get dropped off at the airport and then fly to Vegas (about 4.5 hours including layovers) and then hopefully get a quick bite to eat before catching a show - probably "Ka" and then spend the evening in the hotel - probably the MGM grand and then fly back to Eugene the next morning. What do you folks think? We've never been to Vegas so I think it could be a fun quick trip.

| That sounds great. I'm sure she'll be extremely happy with that. I know my wife would like it (and so would I!!). A few years ago, don't remember which anniversary, I made reservations at a cabin in Gatlinburg, TN without telling my wife. I knew he boss and had called her a couple of weeks back to arrange for my wife's vacation time and everything. That Friday morning we get up and hit the showers like always. Except when she gets out of the shower, I'm dressed casual and packing a suitcase. She's like, "WTF?!?" and I said, "Well, if you want to go to Gatlinburg for a 4-day weekend, you'd better start packing. I'm leaving in an hour." It was nice. |

| Top Gear ! Full Throttle! ![]() | Go for it Steve. Make reservations at the Eiffel Tower Restaurant (Paris Hotel) before you leave and take the old lady there. Or make reservations at Picasso (Bellagio) which is the restaurant seen in Ocean's 11. You'll definitely have a fun night after that, if you catch my drift.

Oh, and Steve, if it's still playing, I'd recommend "O". Vegas is the ONLY place the Cirque do Soleil can perform that because they need a special theater. Yes "O" stands for l'eau (water in french) and the performers go from dry stage to water like a pool in one smooth flow. It's so hard to describe, but it's just beautiful!! Other acts can travel to other locations but not "O". So see it while you're in Vegas!!! [Edit] I've got the link for you. Cirque du Soleil - O - Las Vegas

| I dunno, I'd rather see a woman with a donkey on a stage, but to each their own.

| I was thinking about 'O' but figured I see the other one Ka. Maybe next time! My wife's dad designed the cylinders that move the stages in the show Ka.

| the plan is now complete! We fly from Eugene at 1pm on the 10th, get to Vegas at 5pm. Limo to the MGM Grand. Time to get ready and walk up the strip to Paris Las Vegas for dinner at 6:45pm in the Eiffel Tower. Back to the MGM Grand for the Cirque du Soleil "Ka" show at 9:30pm. After show plans not disclosed - this is a family friendly site after all We'll meet Serena's aunt and uncle for breakfast - her aunt worked for years as a VIP liaison for the MGM and knows a lot of people in Vegas - she used her contacts to get me good seats for Ka. We fly back right before noon and get back to Eugene around 5pm Sunday. I have to admit I'm rather pleased with myself for getting everything planned out and it should be no problem keeping it a surprise. I can't wait!

Sounds AWESOME. You're both going to absolutely love it. The walk from MGM to Paris is a little over a mile, and with current weather, should be quite comfortable. My wife and I went in July and I made the mistake of walking from Bellagio to Stratosphere. 3 miles doesn't seem that bad until you try it in 110º heat. ![]() By the way, the Stratosphere observation deck at night is one of the most amazing sights you'll ever see. The line is very long though. ![]() Take a jacket. The meal will take a while and temperature drops about 30º after sundown. Of course you could just snuggle up and...keep warm, ahem. When the guys on the street try to hand you a card, just keep walking. I'll second the Fremont St Experience. It's pretty cool.

| Can't take credit for this one - a friend did this for his wife on their 20th anniversary - he spent weeks (probably more like months) planning - and somehow managed to keep the whole deal a secret from his wife. Including calling his wife's boss to schedule a weeks vacation for her without her finding out about it, and getting his folks to watch their kids while they would be gone. He booked them on a cruise, sailing out of Mobile, AL. She thought they were going to Biloxi to stay at one of the casinos there, and he was just taking a side trip through Mobile for a day of deep sea fishing with some friends. When he pulled up at the port, she asked where their friends were, why weren't they meeting around Bayou LeBatre, and where was the fishing boat. When he pointed at the cruise ship and said they were going on that - it took him 15 minutes to convince her he wasn't joking. And another 10 to convince her he had taken care of everything back home for the time they would be gone.

| Suprise anythings for spouses usually end in discovering your loved one in the midst of flagrant delecto with someone else as you pop in on them at work when they least expect it. But, hey... onward!

| We had a great time - just got back. First time to Vegas for both of us and the place has to be seen to be believed. Dinner at the Eiffel Tower was amazing and the highest tab we've had so far for a dinner for two - it just trumped dinner at the 21 degrees North restaurant in Turtle Bay on Oahu. Neither of us drink, and it was $200 before tip. The "Ka" show at the MGM was incredible - absolutely fantastic and we were 8 rows back in the middle section. Perfect seats. Not a bad whirlwind trip and I'd recommend it for a good anniversary surprise. When she was trying to guess where we were going she asked "we're not going to Paris for dinner are we?" I had to smile, because, we were, but not the Paris she had in mind.
