Well, I survived. The pics aren't available yet, but I'll post them when I can. As some of you might remember, I went to Eureka Springs Arkansas for 4 days with my wife. We left the baby with my parents. If you've never been to Eureka Springs, it's basically like Pidgeon Forge Tennessee: a town packed to the gills with millions of dollars of useless stuff for sale. Trinkets, knick-knacks, t-shirts, you name it. If you don't need it, they've got it. We stayed in a 100-year old cottage on the side of a mountain overlooking the city. We'd have to walk down 109 steps, cross a street, and go up into the city. The city itself is situated on the side of a mountain. The streets run around the mountain at an angle, so you're always going either up or down. Nothing flat that wasn't man made. Every morning, I was greeted by wildlife. I'm not a city person, so I'm used to having deer run through the yard and stuff, but these deer in Eureka Springs were like stray dogs. They'd walk right by you without getting skiddish. Weird. We spent our days walking around the town and/or driving around the area. We spent our nights (and a couple of afternoons) chilling in the hot tub, drinking tequila, etc. The etc. was amazing, BTW. The most salient characteristic of this town was the liberalist approach to everything (don't be turning my %%%%ing thread into a political discussion, I'm just telling it like it is). They decriminalized pot there earlier this year (the sheriff says it's still a federal law and he'll continue arresting people), and there is an abundance of homosexual men (not that there's anything wrong with that). Rainbows everywhere. The second thing you notice is that the whole place is geared towards women having a good time. Nothing wrong with that. In all, we had a good time, and I don't really crave the drink even though I spent every evening buzzed. For those of you that don't know, I quit drinking a year ago. Odd that I'm not in the restroom right now sipping from the hand cleaner. The worst part of the trip (sad to say): the motorcycles. Nothing ruins the tranquility of a nice tourist trap like an idiot without a muffler. They really need to crack down on the morons with the altered exhaust systems that aren't happy just being in the crowd . . . they have to rev up and let everyone know that they are there. "Look at me!! I'm loud!!" Whoop-tee-do, %%%%%%%. Anyway, I bought a t-shirt and a really nice porcelain vase. I hate Memphis. |
