Default Over 40 and going to the track.

OK, for the last couple of years I've been playing around with the idea of taking it to the track. A lot of excuses kept getting in the way. The biggest being that a 40 year old man has no business going out on the track with all the young folk. Next was the wife, what was she going to say about this juvenile idea. Third was gear. I'm surprised they let my gear in the pits never mind on the track.

Then Tab popped up on the scene. He's a fellow member here and at another Board I frequent. I went to the track a couple of times with Tab and found to my surprise that a lot of the racers are in my age group or older. They are also some of the nicest people you will meet. It takes a ton of talent and experience to earn those expert plates. However, their more than happy to chew the fat and dish out good solid advise ( as long as their not getting ready and have their game face on ).

After last Thursdays open practice, I couldn't take it anymore. No matter what he says it's all Tab's fault. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

So, yesterday I went and made the folks over at Newenough very happy. Absolutely none of my gear is adequate for the track. Even with the good prices at Newenough - Helmet, leathers, gloves and boots are a small fortune.

OK, that done, what to tell wifey. I get all my argument points lined up and prepare for the "Battle Royale". I sit down and tell Jean that I just bought my track gear and I'm going to go do some dumb ass shiznit at the track. Starting with Tony's Riding school and Penguin Racing school so that I can get certified and possibly licensed. Here we go, I brace myself for the oncoming attack and......" Good for you! I'm happy for you! That's great!"

Good for me !!! Good for me!!! Don't get me wrong, I'm as giddy as a little school girl but, I some how feel cheated. I worked really hard on my presentation / arguments and all I get is " I'm happy for you "!!!

After almost twenty years with Jean, I've learned that I still can't figure her out.
