For those of you that actually pay attention to the thigns I post, this thread will be somewhat familiar. You see, I live in Memphis, TN. Every year around this time, thousands of Elvis fans and impersonators flood the streets on the south end of town to honor "The King." I am totally disgusted by the herds of sweaty Elvi (plural of Elvis . . . pronounced just like it's spelled: El'-vye  ) roaming the streets of our dirty, crime-ridden city. They cry and cry like they knew the man.  "Oh, boo-hoo, my favorite musician ate and pilled himself to death, I'm so sad." If you ask me, Stevie Ray Vaughn's death was the worst thing to happen to music. EVER.When are these people going to let this go? He was an entertainer, not a messiah. Do herds of Lenni and McCartni converge on Liverpool every year to honor the old Cavern Club days? If not, why not? What is Liverpool doing to keep these people away, and can it be done in Memphis? I, for one, am all for announcing an open hunting season on anyone caught within the city limits wearing a sequined jumpsuit. Ever notice that the impersonators are, like, 90+% "old Elvis"? You know Old Elvis . . . the fat, sweaty guy . . . not the young svelte charmer that he once was. That's too hard to impersonate. BUT, just about anyone can put on a ridiculous 70's outfit, grow a pair of lambchops and buy some cheesy glasses. Old Elvis is easy, young Elvis . . . you've either got it or you don't . . . few have it. I have to admit, I'm listening to "Little Sister" as I type this, and I'm reading "Elvis: What Happened?" this weekend. So, I'm not averse to Elvis . . . I'm just bewildered at the following that remains. Gotta' end this post now. I have to go to the restroom to practice my Elvis sneer and get back in my jumpsuit.
