I'm coordinating both the Tempe and Tucson Screenings this year.... We have craploads of giveaways this year. go to Motorcycle Journal for more info. Can't Stop The Serenity 2007:Tempe Edition Thursday, June 21, 2007, 7 p.m. at The Harkins Centerpoint 730 South Mill Avenue Tempe, AZ 85281 Last year the Arizona Browncoats raised $3850.00 (after costs) for Equality Now in a screening of Joss Whedon’s Serenity at Harkins Valley Art. The screening included a live performance by local musical groups The Bedlam Bards and Allanah. The global event received extensive word-of-mouth through MySpace, LiveJournal, various Joss Whedon fansites, the blogosphere, and heavyweight national media outlets MTV and The Sci-Fi Channel. The Tempe screening was the second screening held in Arizona in 2006. There was also a screening held in Tucson at The Loft Cinema in conjunction with Arizona’s first-ever Buffy the Vampire Slayer Sing-along. With the two screenings combined, the Arizona Browncoats raised over $9000 for Equality Now in 2006. Our goal for 2007 is to at least match, if not far surpass, the amounts collected during last year’s event all in the name of charity. With Bookmans Entertainment Exchange signed on as a major sponsor, we’re currently working with Harkins Centerpoint 11 to pull off this year’s Tempe screening. In addition to benefiting Equality Now, a portion of this year’s proceeds from the Tempe screening will be given to a local women’s charity, Growth Improvement for Female Teens (GIFT), an organization dedicated to empowering young women right here in our community. ------------------------------------ Can't Stop The Serenity 2007: Tucson Edition Saturday, June 23, 2007, 7 p.m. at The Loft Cinema 3233 E. Speedway Blvd. Tucson, Arizona 85716 A worldwide fundraiser for Equality Now, with a portion of proceeds benefiting the Women's Foundation of Southern Arizona. Presented by the Arizona Browncoats and the Loft Cinema Sponsored by Bookmans Entertainment Exchange Last year, with one month's planning, no major sponsor, a slew of Browncoat donations, and the generosity of local and national businesses (as well as people who just showed up to help!), the Arizona Browncoats raised $5,329.00 (after costs) for Equality Now in a rare SOLD OUT screening of Joss Whedon's Serenity at the 500-seat Loft Cinema. Held in conjunction with Arizona's first-ever Buffy the Vampire Slayer Sing-Along under the header THE BEST DAMN JOSS WHEDON DOUBLE FEATURE EVER, the event garnered press from such publications as The Arizona Daily Star, The Tucson Weekly, and the University of Arizona's Daily Wildcat. The global event received extensive word-of-mouth through MySpace, LiveJournal, various Joss Whedon fansites, the blogosphere, and heavyweight national media outlets MTV and The Sc-Fi Channel. Out of 41 cities participating in 2006's global fundraising event, Tucson earned the second-highest total gross for a single screening. Add the amount raised at our second fundraiser screening in Tempe last September, and the Arizona Browncoats raised over $9,000 for Equality Now in 2006. This year, we want to top ourselves, all in the name of charity. With Bookmans Entertainment Exchange signed on as our major sponsor, we're currently hard at work in pulling together this year's Loft screening. In addition to benefiting Equality Now, a portion of this year's proceeds will be given to the Women's Foundation of Southern Arizona, an organization dedicated to fostering equity and opportunity for women and girls in our own community. ------------ You can also find if there is a screening near you at CantStopTheSerenity.com The Global Charity Event |
