Default Wrestlers

When I was growing up I would sit in my Grandfathers lap and watch Gordon Soley and all the wrestlers on Saturday night. There was a wrestler name "Cheif Jay Strongbow" and he was one of the good guys. Well I tell you that to tell you this:

I was in a Gun Store in Griffin the other day and low and behold who did I see:

Cheif Jay Strongbow was sitting behind the counter talking to the owner. He is a lot older and a lot more out of shape now but he is still Chief Jay Strongbow.

Just thought I would share.

Bye

LOL...that's really cool.

I often see the one and only Captain Lou Albano. He lives near me and I've seen him a few times having drinks at the local Applebee's restaurant.

I remember the Chief as well, along with Rowdy Roddy Piper, Andre the Giant and all the rest of those guys. Heck they had their own cartoon when I was a kid.

The funny part is that I was just reading about Andre the Giant in WikiPedia the other day. It's almost scary how complete the whole wrestling world is described in WikiPedia...

My father told me that when he was in college (in the early '50s), one of his classmates (my dad was a PE major) was a professional wrestler. My dad used to tease this guy about how everything was staged and fake - until one day when this guy threw down my dad and put him in a leglock...

Yeah, it was a little staged and every one of them is in the Actors Guild....but all the blood was real.

I work with a bodybuilder that used to work out with Sid Vicious. Remember him? Jerry Lawler can be on a weekly basis in Memphis, if you know where to look (so can Steven Seagal <ewwwwwww!> . . . who is regularly seen around town wearing <get this> a mu'umu'u . . . no chit, a mu'umu'u <double-ewwwwww!>). He's fat as hell now.

I wondered what happened to Steven Seagal ... I just figured that he lost a "get out of town" match with Chuck Norris!

Nah . . . lately, he's taken to watering down the fine blues scene here with his "band."

No Way! He always thought of himself as such a major stud too.

He's probably as big as the GoodYear blimp by now, what a perfect time for him to get a band.

I just wonder how many folks it takes to tie him into his corset...and you know he's wearing one.

Cheif Jay, eh? What about Little Jay?

I remember some of my favorites, like Bob Backlin and Sergeant Slaughter.

The Sarge was at our AAA baseball stadium last year. I reminded him of one of his last matches with Bob, they were big rivals. It was called the street match and it was violent.
In my best Gorilla Monsoon voice, "The rules are, there are no rules!"

Slaughter laughed long and hard and told me I must have been a real fan. He said that match hurt like hell.

He's pretty cool, when I was introduced.....I was introduced as "Smurf". When I shook his hand it looked like I was shaking hands with a Giant Grizzly, the mans hands are HUGE still. Everytime I see him now he comes over and shakes my hand and ask me how's it going Smurf. Seeing him now I can't imagine him slapping the taste out of anybody's mouth like he did in the ring.
