I didn't know about that rule. At what point does one become established?

This is the only rule that I was aware of. "Off Topic A place for goofing off and interests other than motorcycles. Talk about anything here, but please keep subject matter family oriented. Do not include links to sites that aren't." Sorry if I have misled anyone.

Did you get it that time? It's no so much a rule as a common understanding at any forum with a central theme.

Rowdy is one of the Admins and a great source of info on a number of subjects. He personally helped me with my last bike purchase with excellent reviews, tech info and recommendations

'nut is one of the most knowledgeable and experienced riders I know of. I've seen him do the research and post technical diagrams for many people. I think he may be the only member with his own forum.

They, along with the other admins and core members are what keeps this excellent site up and running and generally on topic. As far as I know it's THEIR site, not a democracy. I personally take it as an honor and privilege to be allowed membership

If no one has said it lately, GREAT job guy's and gal's

If the big dogs bark, sometimes it's a real good idea to "Go lay down"

agreed for the most part, but this is the OFF TOPIC section, which in general on any forum allows the members to chatter about whatever they feel like, be it cornish hens or beer or guitars or .....

"Off topic" is off topic on just about ANY forum, and at least the OT chatter is confined to one defined section.

if OT should only be accessible to 'established members' to talk about things they want, then what defines an 'established member'? is there a post count that needs to be exceeded, or does a member need to get a 'reference' from another established member, or what?

OT is OT. if someone doesn't feel like the chatter that's here is reasonable, then don't read the OT topics! obviously, offensive material needs to be screened out no matter what, but cornish hens and beer are pretty tame OT subjects, i think.

i don't get it - just because some of us are new, we can't chatter in OT until the riding weather clears up? are we THAT inferior?

I think it would have a better effect if you turned the camera to face where you are going !

Greg, I'll make this as clear as I know how:

If you're here to learn about motorcycling, feel free to use the entire site.
If you're planning on buying a bike soon, feel free to use the entire site.
If you think bikes are cool, but have no real intention of buying one, keep your use of the site limited to reading and asking the occasional question about motorcycles.

If we allow anyone to come along and chatter about OT subjects, pretty soon the site becomes just another nondescript chat site that's paying server fees and requiring moderation for a bunch of useless drivel. We don't mind useless drivel, but it should come from motorcyclists (or intended motorcyclists).

Right. I was saying what others are thinking. Now, back to our regularly scheduled program . . .

As a wise anonymous once said, Lurk Moar.

If you're hear to learn, then the first thing to do is SHUT UP AND LISTEN.

You don't learn by spouting stupid questions. You learn by listening to what other people - people with more experience than yourself - have to say.

You are not established until people call you by your real name.

Edit: They call you by your real name on the board, or by your board name in real life.

My favorite part about being on a message board is having a captive audience. WOOOOOOOO!!!!!

I agree wholeheartedly . . . "Monique".

It seems that the whole point of this thread has been this: "If you don't own (or intend to own VERY SOON) a motorcycle, this may not be the board for you. There are plenty of other boards out there for people in all walks of life, so please find one that fits and join it. Although we may enjoy your conversation, too much non-motorcycle-related chit-chat tends to clutter up the server."

Please see Uncle Bob's monkey for a full refund.

Okay, at first I thought this thread was a little on the stuck up side until I went throught reading the post from the weekend. After reading the post where (I won't mention a name to be nice) someone asked if the gas pump clicks off when filling a motorcycle like it does for a car, I completely understand why Nut started this thread. THANKS NUT!!! Sorry I thought your thread was a little stuck up.
