I have friends and a couple of cousins that are cops. I can say out of experience that cops in general are jerks. The cocky attitude is a need for their job but it doesn't help their appearance as a group.

I had a teacher in 4th grade that was a bonafide sadist. She would find any excuse to come up behind us grap the hairs on our sideburns and twist them until we cried. Seems like every other week I read about another teacher going to jail for being a pedophile or otherwise sexually abusing a kid somewhere. Does that mean I can say that out of my experience teachers in general are sadists and pedophiles? Of course not. Same applies to cops, firemen, grocery store clerks, doctors, carpenters, even astronauts, etc. Some people are born jerks and will die jerks and you will find them in all professions and walks of life.

Just because you personally know one or two cops who are jerks doesn't mean cops are jerks in general.

You had sideburns in the 4th grade?

I don't think I'm that way.

But just to be sure, ask Sean, Everett, Willy, or Kelly

That's not true. We had a cop here not long ago to do some investigating and he was nice and glad to help and not at all what you would describe as a jerk.

Now I have seen some really mean cops...once my mom, sister, and I went to the courthouse. On the way down, Mom took the elevator and let my sister and me take the stairs. We went boiling down the stairs (I'm so GLAD no one was coming up!) and ran out the door back on the first floor. I almost fell flat down, and my sister adn I, we were both laughing, and one of the cops looked up and glared at me so hard his eyebrows were almost down to his knees. I reckon he was mad because we went running down his precious stairs.

But no, not all cops are jerks. I've seen some really nice cops who will do everything they can to help you.

Hey, the ticket was already written; by that point, a smart-mouth remark in return for a smart-mouth remark seems to cancel one another out.

A good friend of mine is a Detroit cop; talking to him has given me a lot of insight into the field of police work. If your job consisted of listening to people complain ALL DAY LONG, you'd probably be on edge too; especially with the low base pay offered in that line of work. True, it's easy to lump all cops into one category after having dealt with several hot-headed officers, but those people exist in ANY profession.

Second, after having been let off the hook FOUR TIMES for speeding in the city of Phoenix since I moved here, I have absolutely nothing bad to say about Phoenix cops. MI state highway patrol is a totally different story though.

The cops in my town, for the most part are really nice (it doesn't hurt that I'm on the fire department, I'm sure). There is only one that really hates people (even those of us that pulled him out of his cruiser on a backboard after he was rear-ended) and one other that is quite cynical most of the time. However, if you treat them with respect, they treat you with respect.

Oh... Thank God, Azkober. Without you roaming the plains and high deserts of this desolate and often times gravely dangerous forum, we would surely be in a perilous situation.

And to address Rockhead,

I heard if you wear garlic it'll keep the bloodsuckers away.

See... the smiley gives me a disclaimer.

Glad to be of service. And without your trolling for attention and spreading your hate and discontent from one thread to the next we might even have a few constructive and positive discussions ...

No smiley and no disclaimer required.

Gee... see how well we are getting along?

And you tried to convince me that spooning wouldn't lead to forking!

You know, this type of juvenile comment probably plays well on campus and may even impress some of your more simple minded fellow students but since you keep using the same ones over and over in here they just sound sillier every time you use them. And, as has been pointed out before, your pitiful attempts at insults all appear to follow a certain theme.
Be that as it may, no worries, even though growing up may be a lengthier process for you than for most, it will happen for you too - someday.
