OK, this is the perfect place to ask this question since there are folks here from every state in the union. Which part of the country feels the increasing effects of climate change the least? Here in eastern Washington we definitely have noticed a change. Namely THE WIND!!! We, on a near regular basis, have 40 to 60 mph winds. I have lived here all my life and have never seen anything like it. I'm getting pretty damn tired of seeing trees knocked over, roof shingles flying off my house, etc. Some folks have resorted to cutting down perfectly healthy trees around their homes so that their dwellings aren't crushed. It's getting to the point where I'm thinking of moving to a home located on the north side of a knoll or hill to help block these ever-increasing and more frequent windstorms that come from the southwest, or maybe even locating to another state. Maybe some folks here can verify or deny, but here's how I see climate change effecting other parts of the country. East coast - artic like winters. Southern states, Florida to Texas - hurricanes. West coast - fire storms and wind storms, possible tsunamis. Central states - tornadoes and more powerful storms. Now the one place I hear very little about concerning dramatic weather changes is Alaska and anyone here that lives there, please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Of course moving there would mean a shorter riding season. LOL But then again, I guess snowmobiles and quads are fun, too. Dan |
