In the mountains high The deserts hot Or the alleys narrow I will fight for you. When you are asleep in your bed When you watch the TV When you laugh quietly in church, I will fire my weapon I will sweat and bleed I will pray for home I will fight for you. Though many support me, Saying, "Support Our Troops" Yet they deny my mission: Freedom still is not free I will fight for you. When you work in the office When you watch the birds Cut the grass And spot the planes I will fight for you. When you work your crafts When you take your pictures Cook the meals And read before bed I will fight for you. When you go to school Later play your guitar Write your stories And listen to tunes I will fight for you. For your liberty and your lives For your homes and your friends For the Constitution For our Faith I will fight for you. This poem, while maybe not lyrically correct or in proper form was found on the back of a prayer card found among a National Guard Soldiers belongings. It was dated 18 August 2005. Written by SGT Eric W. Slebodnick, PA Army National Guard, Killed in Action in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, 28 September 2005. Thanks for reading this and remember why we fight and why we are there. I strongly believe if we don't fight it there, we will be fighting terrorism at home. |
