Default Motorcycle Trailer Recommendations

I'm thinking of buying a motorcycle trailer.

Any recommendations as far as size (at least be able to haul two bikes).

Single axle or tandem?

I've decided I want an enclosed trailer for the reason of going on a trip, I can just stow gear in it. Although, a convincing argument that a flat bed can work would be appreciated too.

Some good options in the first link Louis.....but too small.

Second link doesn't work. "Page not found."

If you decide to got the enclosed utility trialer route here is one good thing to consider. You can always buy those front wheel cradle assemblies that will bolt into the floor of the trailer and mount tie down points in the flooring as well. Add some thicker wood flooring and/or opt for a reinforced floor design.

That way you have an enclosed trailer that can be used for more than just hauling bikes. A good 6' x 12' or even a 8' x 12' wood be a good investment.

A strictly designed motorcycle trailer while is a great thing,, severly hampers your use of it for anything other than that.

You can have a custom built ramp designed as to where you can slide it up under the trailer and build a lip to lock it in place.

But be forewarned,,, with that type of trailer in your posession,, not only are they high on the theft circuit,, but you will suddenly have friends you never knew you had come out of the woodwork to borrow it.

Tim...dude I can totally beat those prices here locally.
I am looking for one for the cali move. I'll look around here and get back with you. Plus I know you can get them online out of texas pretty cheap too...like 2500 for a enclosed two bike trailer and plenty of room for junk ..generators...sleeping bags etc.

That seems pretty good.

Exactly what I was thinking too. Camping gear and the like. I saw a used 8x17 for $2500.

Pete...anybody build Smoker's up by you?

I found a company up in Nahunta, GA. Damn...with all the 'Necks around here you'd think there'd be someone welding up Smoker's on every corner.

Thanks for fixing the link Louis!

Clarification: Locking it down. I was meaning making the trailer theft proof. Sean's right about the theft. They either get broken into, or out and out stolen. They steal 'em first and figure out the contents later. Sometimes they get away with a couple of dirtbikes or ATV's or a whole complete racing setup for a family Go-Kart racing outfit. Or some dude's livelihood (trailer being full of essential tools to earn a living with).

That's about the extent of it!!!

Bigger's always better!!!

Whenever I smoke it gets out of hand with the requests. Plus, I need more room to do a variety of meets in one shot. I'm always tinkering with something, so I like to try it across the board. Ribs, Butts, and Briskets.

Well those boots you can buy to go on the wheels is the first line of defense (like the ones i had booted on the Stang). Then Gorilla Locks (I think) makes one that goes up inside of the hitch where the ball seats. Therefore they cannot get a ball inside of the hitch in order to tow it away.

Those locks on the hitch pin are good but if someone really wants your trailer they cut within a few seconds. We had our trailer yanked from us when I worked for the last company. Found the lock lying on the ground where the trailer used to sit.

For the home you can have a earth anchor installed that has a permanent eye that you can chain it to.

Basically the more junk you put on it the less likely they will spend the time. Put lugs on it with locks too in order to keep them from swapping the wheels on it.

A good set of wheel boots. Lock lugs to keep the wheels from being swapped. A good hitch pin lock. A ball lock. And maybe a chain through the wheels will deter almost anyone.

I did see one time a setup where a guy ran a solid bar through the holes in the rim under the trailer across to go through the holes on the opposite wheel. It then locked with a lock setup that had a removeable end plate and the opposite end had a welded end plate. the trailer in that case could not go forward or backwards more than half the wheels rotation.

Just make it a pain in the bum and if they still get it you can say they earned it I reckon.

Damn Sean...that's some impressive knowledge. If I went through all that, and they still got it......I'd be happy to let 'em have it....write it off....but be pissed that I couldn't witness the spectacle.

Pete...I got on this idea after camping this past weekend, and also, Mrs. Intimid8er is expressing a little trepidation about riding her bike two hours up I-4. That is not striking as much fear into her heart as much as not being able to pack a steamer trunk full of crap to just take for a weekend. I got her over the ride aspect. But she did bring a good point up. It rains like a Mo-Fo that time of year. Then again....there's the issue of the steamer trunk of crap!

I mentioned to Sean, I might rent a Hardley that weekend, and just drive the Family Truckster over. Or rent a U-Haul if I haven't bought a trailer by then.

Bought one from Harbor Freight this weekend: Item number 90154.

$239, 4' x 8', holds ~1200#, folds up to about a 2' x 5' footprint, trailer bed tilts down to help with loading.

Put it together in about 2 hours, pretty easy to do, seems very solid. I like that I can fold it up and store it in the garage so easily.

I'm going to add diamond plate flooring and should be good to go.
