Default Rear Wheel

Had to put a tire on the back of the "M" this weekend. Dealer wanted $140.00 for the tire, and $60.00 for the mounting and balancing if I brought it up to them.

I found a Dunlop K555 for $117.00 out the door, got the owner's manual out and started removing the rear wheel myself. Took about an hour to get it jacked up and removed. Took wheel and new tire to the dealer and was charged $30.00 for mounting and balancing, that's a savings of almost $50.00 plus I learned something about the bike.......How to take the rear wheel off.

BTW.....Like the Dunlop alot.

Good deal, bud. Working on your own bike is indeed satisfying (to both the wallet and the soul).

Putting the rear wheel back on does it require a specific torque like a car? or not?

The manual said 52 foot pounds I think......I don't have a torque wrench so I just pulled as hard as I could until it wouldn't tighten anymore and figured it was close enough, put the cotter key back in the axle, let her down, took off up the street, it didn't fall off so I guess I got it tight enough.

The last time I used a torque wrench was on the heads of a small block chevy, the heads torqued at 75 foot pounds, this was all I could pull with both feet on the firewall, I didn't use my feet this time so I figured it was close.
