But after stopping at the liquor store I am sure you weren't far behind.

The reason I started riding is not as good as most of those already listed. My reason was because it just looked like sooo much fun. I thought, "hey, I've wanted to learn how to ride my whole life, i can afford a bike, and my wife is ok with it. Why the hell am I not doing it?"

With that reasoning I took the MSF, got the C50, and here I am. But what started it all is, it just looked like a lot of fun.

Now that I ride, the primary reason I enjoy riding is just as Smurf mentioned above.

I think it's all a matter of what you like and opinion. Nothing is fact, Some say 600cc is too much to learn on while others say its perfectly fine. Wheres the fact? Some don't like sport bikes and they start threads like this, while others love sport bikes and don't care about what others think. Until its proven then it should be just your opinion. To me it's just like a car I don't see people buying used cars just to learn on for a couple of years then moving up to get the sports cars (imagine that). it's 2006 and I think some of us need to realize that as time changes so do the people, hell look at how fast our children learn these days. I'm sure someone can learn to ride a motorcycle faster than they did 30 years ago.

An 82-foot motorcycle? That's a huge bike! No wonder the chicks dug you.

Most people buy bikes for one reason and one reason alone STRAIGHT LINE ACCELARATION. Most riders dont really understand the sheer appreciation of simple but beautiful aspects of motorcycle riding like fine clutch control. Today I saw a kid getting on a brand new Suzuki GSX-R 600 and he couldnt even get the darn bike of the kick stand and once he did SLAM!!!!! right into the ground. For some reason he tried to back it up without siting on it but instead grabbing it by its handle bars while off the bike and back it up. Riders need to really appreciate the finer qualities of riding like cornering, clutch control and riding the motorcycle instead of letting the motorcycle ride you. I wish riders really understood what motorcycling is instead of approaching it with TUNNEL vision thinking "how fast can I go in a straight line" I see several older guys one being my grand'pa riding his little harley(understatement) but when I watch him hes enjoying the riding and thats what its about.

I haven't really seen that much bashing of sport bikes on this thread. Actually, the person that started it rides a sportbike! Anyway, Not a real big deal, just had to point that out! This has stayed more civilized a thread than I thought it might! Enjoy, and read on. This has been some fun reading, with some good points, your post included! As far as the used bike goes, I sort of learned on a used one. Cool thing is, it was a hand me down. My father learned on it, me, my cousin. We all only used it for about 2-3 months, then all of us moved onward and upward. Just used it enough to get our feet wet, so to speak. A 1982 440 LTD just doesn't get the blood pumping much longer than that!

I got into riding because I'm one good lookin' sonofa%%%%%!!!

The bike just enhances my good looks. And I don't even want to get into how effin' cool I look on it!

The only problem I have when I ride, is when I see a reflection of myself. It causes problems, 'cause I gotta stop and look at myself.
