| Where Am I ? | Man, I'm excited like none other... A lil intoxicated too, maybe that plays part in it... But whatever the case, tomorrow I'm going to pick up all my gear (jacket, pants, helmet, gloves, boots, oil, oil filter, air filter, new battery, charger, gorilla security, the whole nine yards and then some). I'd have gotten it today, but by waiting until tommorrow I save over a hundred bucks because of some sale. I just sat on my bike for like, 20 min... There's a nice, big, empty parking lot right across the road from me. I'm frickin jazzed. It's kind of scary that I've never ridden a mile on a bike in my life, yet I have a permit that lets me go on the road because I passed a short multi-choice quiz. I'm not dumb enough to hit the roads right away, but who knows who is... So tomorrow, a lil basic maintenance, then I gear up and start practicing like it's the only chance I'll ever have to ride in my life. I had an 87 GS450L for a week a couple months back, had to sell it because I needed to swap the exhaust on my car to pass the smog test. Now I've got a WAYYYY nicer bike (and prolly a better one to learn on anyway), and no car I'm a lil buzzed, so I feel like raving about how excited I am; practicing vicariously, one might say... Next weekend I'm going to go through and do pretty much all the maintenance I can do in two days on my bike. But tomorrow... AAUGH... I WANNA RIDE. I'm scheduled for the MSF on June 23rd, and unfortuately, I've got to start getting myself to and from work a ways before then. I'm hoping one of the more influential members on here will be planning some Orange County noob event soon I tell you what, though, the GS500 is one sweet little bike, and I'm going to hold onto mine for a looooong time (bear in mind, a long time for me to have a vehicle is 6 months - I tend to trade up frequently). So, for all you experienced peoples - what is the best way to practice with no teacher, and no clue what you're supposed to practice? I've read all the FAQs and noob guides... I hope that's enough... Gear is expensive, and I don't want to shred mine up too quick... If there are any philanthropical OC members around here who would like to contribute to a noob's learning experience, hit me up! I can use all the help I can get... I'm too cautious to be a squid. I don't even know "the wave" yet... Though I got an idea of it when I saw some bikers pass the other day (a guy on a sport bike goin one way, and two guys on Harleys goin the other). It's like all bikers are in some sort of club. Comradery is cool. Holy crap... This is turning into a long post... I should get to sleep so I can wake up, grab my gear, and GIT TA PRACTICE!!! WOO HOOOOO!!!! /end drunken rave

| Glad to see that level of excitement from a bike other than a Gixxer. You sound like a true rider, Duuude.

| Where Am I ? | I love engines. I got a lot of practice to do before I hit the road, and I lot of maintenance to do before I do any more practice :\ But at least I got all my gear, a few of the supplies I'll need, a permit to ride it, and an appointment with an MSF course. Soon enough I'll be a "biker". WOO HOO.
