Default Bad day at work!

So heres what happened, I work landscaping and every Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday we mow all of the 40 lawns. Well yesterday (Thursday) we finished mowing the Thursday lawns so we started on the Friday lawns. So im a trimmer, for those of you who dont know what that is, I edge the cracks between the driveway/sidewalk and trim around trees and what we call moats (cracks between grass and landscaping). Well im just trimmin away minding my own business then all of a sudden BOOM!! SH!#!!! I knew exactly what happend, I didnt even need to look up. What happened was the trimmer threw a rock into the customers window and shattered the WHOLE thing, it spider webbed throught the whole window. So I knocked on their door and told her what happend. Apologized a million times. She said she would call her insurance company and see what they could do. I then proceeded to call my boss and explain to him what happened since he wasnt their.

Man I feel so bad, I mean I know I would be mad if this happened to me but DAMN! (can we say that?) This sucks. I just feel so bad. If their insurance company wont/cant pay for it then I will be more than willing to pay for it even though I dont really have the money for it. God I feel terrible. I have been worried about this happened ever since I started that job 2 months ago. I didnt think it would ever happen but my luck. I think I did the right think though, by telling them what happened then calling my boss, but it doesnt make me feel any better about the situation.

Sorry for the long post. I just feel incredibly bad and need to rant!!!

You did the right thing. The landscapers in my old townhouse community shattered the drivers side window of one of my cars but didn't tell anyone about it. The neighbors saw it happen but they still refused to accept responsibility. You are a good man. Ended up costing me about $500.00 for the repair. Wasn't bad enough to let the insurance company handle it.

If you boss says you should not have accepted responsibility, then he is not the type of man you should be working for. Accidents happen, how you take care of them is what makes a difference.

Ya know.. my insurance would have paid for the glass but believe me they would get it back one way or another. They always do. I try never to file claims if I don't have to.

You are an honorable man. If it happened to me and you DIDN'T tell me, then I'd be upset. Since you told the owner what happened and it was an accident (not like you threw a rock threw it), then it is not as bad (as long as either insurance or you company pay for it). If the homeowner's insurance doesn't pay for it, your company should have insurance and will pay for it.

Well my boss didnt say I did the right thing but he didnt say I did the wrong thing. He was upset it happened but thats understandable. He knows that accidents happen.

I dont think my boss has insurance with his company. Its kinda a on the side job kinda thing, dont really know how to explain it. But my boss said he would pay for it if their insurance company doesnt, but honestly I would rather pay for it than having to bother my boss with it.

It was an accident and if their insurance does not your boss should.

You can trim my lawn anytime, just do not charge mileage.

If your boss doesn't have insurance, what would happen to you had a rock came from the other way and hit you.

I did the same exact thing to my rear sliding glass door @#$%^&*)!@#!!!. Now I make sure I face the oposite direction so rocks will fly away from the house... (and over to the neighbors... J/K)

wow - what a nice guy! That's kind of admirable that you actually have a conscience in today's world where it seems like it's such a rare commodity. I wouldn't be too hard on yourself though, it was very clearly an accident, and accidents happen. hope for the best with the insurance.

think of it this way, at least it wasn't your motorcycle that accidently went through her window.

Problem you got is you live in Texas... not that I have anything personal against Texas, but it's one of those states that does not require employers to have workers compensation coverage. State should cover you if you get injured, but then in your case your screwed again because you're getting paid under the table - i.e., how can you prove you were working for him when you got injured if you can't prove you've ever been paid by him? Find a real job, pay your taxes like a man, and kudos on doing the right thing by informing the home owner of the broken window. Even if their insurance refuses to pay, unless it was double pane or some other specialty glass window glass isn't going to set anyone back as much as a car window.

Its an occupational hazard so don't beat yourself up over it. You were honest about it and that's all that matters.

Its 106 miles to Chicago. We have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, its dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

Hey, psycho, we're not getting back together. Now get out of my Van Halen t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up.
