Default 3+ Hours of Frustration

Well it was an interesting afternoon mother natures wasn’t cooperating so I went down to the car part store got plugs, rotor, cap and wires. Nothing major just routine maintenance stuff...

The rotor and the cap went ok with minimal knuckle scrape-age. Now to take care of the plugs. I had the plug wires sitting in their proper ports so they don’t get mixed up. Cylinder #1 take the wire out of the port, remove the spark plug, put the new one in, reseat the plug wire, done!!!!. The second cylinder all goes smooth. Then cylinder #3 when removing the plug wire it didn’t feel right. I push back down on the wire pulled it up then back down. What had happened was the boot for the spark plug came off and with the up and down movement it had turned the entire boot upside down. On my car to get to the spark plugs it takes at least an 8 inch extension to go down this cylinder. Now there’s a sparkplug wire boot stuck on the sparkplug that fits like a golf club cover. F%#$, now you can’t even get to the sparkplug.

Shoot I tried everything to get that SOB out, but in the end a coat hanger saved the day.

In all, the job turned into a 3 ½ hour Job……………..

That's annoying. I drove my truck this morning, but this afternoon it's cranking like it's not getting gas (yes I have some). But it's been raining all day so not a good day to get out there and check it out.

Ended up draggin out the rain gear and just riding where I needed to go.

While I completely understand your frustration, I don't see what happened. How can a 7/8" boot turn around in a 1" hole?

It was a magic rubber, and my own fault. My guess is when I pulled up somehow the boot got sideways and when I pushed back down on it the thing turned around. Beats the H out of me Rowdy.

Now too add insult to injury I changed the oil and oil filter today. The last time I had Jiffy Lube take car of it. SOB no wonder the oil was low; someone forgot to tighten the drain plug. (It came off with just my bare fingers) Same thing for the oil filter just grabbed it with my bare hands and it spun right off.

Jiffy Lubes closed right now and I know better than to leave nasty messages on voice mail. But they started it and I’ll make my call Monday to make me feel better.

In all, I am very proud of myself, I only lost it once letting the swear words fly…..

It's not unheard of for those Jiffy Lube Jackholes to leave a plug out of a rear diff and send the guy on his way.

True story. Rear end locked up on the poor guy with his whole family in the car on the Interstate. They were heading out on vacation.

Couple year old Crown Vic. The guy was doing the responsible thing, and having it completely serviced prior to a road trip.

My bro in law's Rear Diff seized on his Dodge Ram (2 years old). No warning. He was on the Interstate, got off the exit ramp (uphill) slowed to check for traffic to merge into, got back on the gas, and BANG! No warning, no nothing. Couldn't even push it off to the side.

Yeah, but you gotta expect that kind of thing in a Dodge.

+1 !!

It was kinda funny after it took a dump. We couldn't push it, and it was stuck right at the red light at the end of the exit ramp. Best we could do was turn the flashers on and and get off the road and sit and watch whilst waiting on a tow truck. We tried to be responsible, and stand behind and off to the side and flag people away. After almost getting hit a few times, and people insisting on not heeding our warnings, it was safer to get off the road, and just watch as the idiots would pull up behind a full size black Quad-Cab with it's flashers on and it's hood up. Time and time again, they'd pull right up to the rear bumper, wait for the light to change, and blow their horn in frustration, then get embarassed when they realized the truck wasn't going anywhere.
