Default Which 600cc bike?

I'm looking to buy my first bike, and I don't know which one I really should get. I'm torn between the Honda CBR600RR, YAMAHA YZF-R6, and the SUZUKI GSX600. I know practically nothing about the technical things about these motorcycles, so I would like to know if you guys have any idea which one is the best one to buy.

Some specific questions I have are:

Which model is easy to maintain?
Which is the cheapest? Most expensive?
Which one is worth the amount of money paid (bang for the buck)
And lastly, is there a big difference between each of them?

If you can tell me more about any of these bikes, that would be great.

My advice as well as most others is going to be, before buying a 600cc sport bike or any bike for that matter, you should look into to taking a rider safety course to become familar with operating a motorcycle. I personally have never ridden a sportbike (just not my thing). BTW welcome to the forum.

They are all equally bad choices. Read this thread about the exact same subject.

wow...thanks for the link - really opened my eyes. I guess I'll look for the lower cc bikes first...too bad the 600cc look so good.

What do you recomend for a beginner? I dont need a bike thats too fast really, cause I'm going to be using this just to go to university and back, although I do want it to look cool...

BTW, sorry for not using the 'search' before - forgot all about it!

oh, and thanks for the welcome. great forum!

Thats just been a very active topic lately, with lots of information. Starting with a smaller bike is a smart idea. You can always learn and get a 600cc bike lately.

Look at the GS500 or the Ninja 500. Welcome to the forum. Great to have you.

Being safe comes first, looking cool comes later.
A used, smaller cc bike, gives you time to learn and lowers the cost.
A dropped bike can be costly to repair.

Just use the search function here, lots of advise and info.

Motorcycling can be a lifetime passion.

What's this?!! A newb sportbike guy actually listening to and heeding advice?!

Dude, the Suzuki GS500's are NICE bikes! Everytime I see one on the street, I have to do a double take. I'd love to get the chance to ride one of those. The Ninja 250's and 500's are good too, although I prefer the looks of the Suzuki's (rear sits up higher, more fairing etc.).

Oh yea, don't skimp on the gear!

Welcome dude!

As others have said, don't be in a big hurry to get on a 600 sportbike. By putting in good quality miles and learning as much as you can on some smaller bikes, when the time comes for you to get on a 600 sportbike the experience will be 10x greater.
As others have said, use the search and read up on some great options that will alow you to learn and progress without getting board or feel like you've wasted you money.

And Welcome to the Forum!

I started on the exact bike I ride now, lol. I am not proud of it, but I took riding classes and in that class I rode a dirtbike 125. I am mature tho, and I take every precaution learnt in that course. I am also not a teenager tho, and I do not recommend that for teenagers, lol

Thanks for the welcome!

I did a few searches on the forum, and read manyposts, and I figure the best choice of bikes for me is between the following 3:

Yamaha FZ6
Suzuki SV650
Suzuki GS500

I still have to do more research about these bikes, but I just wanted to let you guys know that yes, I am stepping away from the powerful 600cc

Plus these bikes are cheaper, which is great on my side because I can't afford to loose any money right now

- mods, your welcome to lock this thread... or just let it die -

Oh, One more thing, I haven’t run into any good bike gear shops where I live (I'm actually searching for this right now...). What are some names for popular bike gear shops in Canada? (So I can do a store locator and such...)

Where in Canada? This thread is a keeper. Reason being, we have recently been debating if we should try to advise people away from the 600cc race bikes and a few people said that no one listens. You are proof to the contrary and proof that there are some responsible young men left in the world. I just knew you were Canadian [IMG][/IMG]

Look under motorcycles in the yellow pages.

Post your location and you will get better response.

Hey Fman, do not forget to check out insurance costs when you're choosing a bike. It's a part of the cost, and with a sport bike it can be a big part of the cost.

Get a good bike and enjoy the ride, it is the season!

+1. Good to see a new rider respond positively to advice. No easy task.

I love my Katana, but thats atleast the 600F and not 600R(and it's beyond fast enough for me), BUT as long as you are not like 6'3 then ^ They are guiding you in the right direction. Just be happy they didn't tell you to get on a Ninja 250 lols.
