Default does everybody pay up front

just came back from the dealership where i had ordered my whitewall tires. they called earlier and said they were back ordered and it would be at least may 3rd before they got here. they had me pre-pay for them, so i decided to go get my money back. i explained to them that i didn't thnk it was fair for them to have my money for almost a month, and then what if they were back ordered again. i'm semi-retired and have a wood shop here at my house that i still do a little work from. a lot of the pieces i do are heirlooms that may not be worth much, but it may run into hundreds to restore them. i never ask for money up front and if i did have to eat one of the pieces that i had a few days work in, it wouldn't bring near what would be owed on it, and i do have material also involved. i just make it a point not to work on other peoples money.
anyway, the sales manager finally said they would keep them on order AND refund my money in the meantime. guess it helps to speak up sometimes.
by the way, it was freedom cycles here in k.c. and i would recommend them to fellow bikers. they are the ones who did my recall without hesitation, and they have very good prices. later, bud

A deposit sure, pre pay never!

Thank goodness for the INTERNET!!!!!

When all else fails, it saves me. Fortunately, I haven't been in a bind to have to deal w/the dealer in that fashion. But I'm sure it's different when dealing w/a recall.

Pre-pay (or $ percentage down) is common for special order M/C items. Has been since I started street riding in '88. Being in the service industry, I can understand it being that way. Although, I usually have the customer pay me when their parts arrive. My clientele are really good about that.
