Plano Texas gets High end Walmart

The 203,091-square-foot store has the chain's only sushi shop, more than 500 organic products and a wine department with more than 1,000 varieties ranging up to $500 a bottle. It features a Wi-Fi-ready Kicks Coffee Café at the front of the store and a kiosk in the meat department that prints recipes and shopping lists.
Even the employees' aprons and vests have been replaced by a more polished navy polo and khaki uniform. Customer service will be available during peak hours from specialists in electronics and cosmetics. Bikes are assembled out in the open so that staffers can answer questions at the same time.
About 1,500 premium items not sold in other Wal-Mart stores are being tested here, said Ryan Lincks, project manager and senior analyst for U.S. strategy for the Arkansas-based retailer.
The store doesn't sell fabric or guns and carries less fishing gear than a typical Wal-Mart. Instead, that space is now devoted to fitness equipment, kids' crafts, sporting goods, patio furniture and hot tubs. Automotive supply aisles are also smaller.
"This customer doesn't work on the family's cars," Mr. Lincks said.
The store has been shaped to fit the lifestyle of area residents, many of whom strongly opposed its construction.
What the heck? Well just goes to show you that the I.Q. in Arkansas hasn't been climbing. I don't care if it is "Plano" It's a friggin' Wal-Mart and this is Texas men go to Wal-Mart for Fishin' lures, shotgun shells, and socks. Women go to get groceries, diapers, and fabric to make that sexy outfit for our anniversary. Anyway this Wal-Mart is also getting an I-Max Theater and will be holding free concerts.

What is amusing is that this being Texas the concerts will be mostly local Country artists. I can just hear it now (imagine country drawl) We thank y'all for comin' t'night, don't forget to try the fish.

Wow... My wife is from Texas. She say's they always do it bigger in texas.

I always wanted to see that huge place that had something like 6 bar's in one building but my wife said they closed it up years ago. The wife would hate that place. Already complains you got to walk ten miles to shop in the standard Super Wall Marts. Maybe they need a motel in that one.

I hate that company so badly. I don't even shop there and I'm forced to pay for there lack of health coverage in the form of taxes.

Whenever you go into there, stop and ask whatever happened to the "Made in America" campaign that ended quietly in the late 90's.

Default ahmish wal-mart

i read that wal-mart has a store someplace that caters to the ahmish community. nothing against ahmish, as i grew up in a community with them, but guess wal-mart will go after any group they feel they can make money on. this particular store had parking for the horse and buggies.
in case you haven't heard though, wal-mart is no longer the worlds largest retailer.....that honor is now exxon-mobile, no surprise ther! later, bud
