Default Finally got a good sound card to pair with my Klipsch Promedia 5.1s

I built my current pc about three years ago, and I've been running onboard audio since. Jolene got me Klipsch's THX certified 5.1 pc system two years ago for Christmas. I knew I was missing it's full potential, but I had no idea how badly.

I saved up a few bucks and almost spontaneously decided to buy a high-end card. After reading what I could find at my favorite pc forum, pcperspective, and reading a bunch of reviews, I settled on Creative's X-Fi Platinum, which was offered with a rebate for $145 from zipzoomfly.com. I was hesitant to buy from a new e-tailer since I'm a diehard Newegg fan, but they deliverd the same service at a price no one else could touch.

Anyway, on to the goods. Simply put... HOLY SWEET MOSES! This combination is the best audio system I've ever owned, and rivals anything I've ever heard. I'm listening to Hell Freezes Over right now on DVD-audio (5.1 dts). Un-farging-believeable. It's a live disk, and I swear I can see every member of the band standing just where they should be. Bass is full and tight, cymbals crisp and clean and positioned just so. Guitars jump out to my ear. It's the kind of music that insists on being loud. Man! I must have front row seats, because the crowd behind me is loving this show, too.

The X-Fi Platinum comes with a really cool drive bay interface panel and a remote. I haven't had much use for either yet, but eventually I'll connect a portable music player, microphone or whatever. Regardless, it's major bling.

I haven't been able to do much gaming at higher volume yet, but it's a major upgrade from the poorly enhanced onboard sound. I'll get back to you on that. For those of you suffering from ear abuse, I highly recommend something like this. It's simply delicious.

I really couldn't think of anything to post in this thread because I'm a MAC user.

Glad you picked up a sweet sound card though.

Oh... I'm so sorry. I had no idea. Is there anything I can do? Anyone I can call for you?

I'm due for an upgrade. Give me a Power Mac G5 Quad (dual-core) and we'll call it good.

computers are for surfing porn and online video games....stereos systems are for music

i occassionaly play some mp3's while browsing the net, but if i am in a music mood i go put the stereo on with my 2-12" cerwin vegas booming.

i have a SoundBlaster Live i think....my friend built my computer for me, ordered all the parts himself (with my approval) about 2 yrs ago...i dont remember details. i would like some surround sound though, would be cool for gaming.

Affliction????

I'm a Mac user, and I'm proud of that. Might replace the "S" from Suzuki on my tank for an Apple... nah just kidding.

I'm overdue for an upgrade too. I'm getting a Mac Mini in May, it'll be enough for my needs.

Interesting thing is that a lot of Dell, IBM, et al. laptop users buy little Apple stickers and cover up their logos.

Don't they know? Apple stickers won't protect their inferior laptops from viruses and pop-up porn ads. Silly little monkeys!

I own that Eagles DVD also, it rocks. I have a Yamaha 5.1 Receiver, Klipsch's satellites, Sony progressive scan player w/ DTS, and a HD Sony Wega. Fantastic. Set the receiver on rock concert and it is just like you described "...front row seats, because the crowd behind me is loving this show..."
