It is sad when a life must come to an end for the sake of a cheap thrill.

Not much sympathy from me.

Quick ... someone call the Darwin Awards committee. This squid may be eligible.

Sympathy? Yes, for his family. There is nothing harder in life than having to bury a child or sibling. I watched my grandfather break down at my mother's funeral ... he wasn't prepared to outlive his daughter.

Hopefully, the girl wasn't injured (I didn't see anything about that in the story). If there's one thing worse than being stupid and causing your own death, it's being stupid and causing someone else's.

Still, hope that his family is finding peace.

Sorry for the parents to a degree. Maybe the parents should've evaluated his maturity level a little more before letting him have a bike. I know,, here comes the boos and tomatoes,, but I wanted allthe fast cars when I was a kid.

I had a 1967 Dodge Coronet 440 6-pack for a total of one week. My dad took me out there and tried to teach me to drive the four speed. After dropping the clutch and killing it about ten times he told me to give it more gas. At that point I floored it so hard that it started smoking the tires and speeding into my neighbors front yard.

My dad told me to move over and he took it out to the interstate which in that day ended about twenty miles from my house. He got it up to well over 100 mph,,, turned it around,, took it home,, parked it by the street, and then put a for sale sign on it. He told me I didn't need a car like that and I wasn't going to get one either.

Several years later my dad taught me how to handle a car in numerous emergency situations. My dad had those cars when he was a kid and he learned the hard way how to drive a car to its limits. He wanted to make sure that if I was going to own one of those cars that I should know how to handle one of those cars.

No different than taking a course, reading a book, or knowing when to say when. I just wonder if the parents did the same for their son or were they the type that either bought him what he wanted, or didn't question what he wanted to just shut him up.

This reflects back to the post about the kid that hit one of our police officer members bike back about 6 months ago. What were the parents thinking then??? Luckily that kid lived,, unluckiy this kid didn't.

The more I hear about this the more I think motorcycle licenses should not be issued to teenagers without a very comprehensive training course which shows you what can happen if you "Squid Around" on a bike.
