The other night on German television, there was one of those stupid shows that is taken from in-car cameras and news reports of police pursuits. In several cases, the (German-speaking) commentator made some rather nasty comments about the overweight police officers who were having a bit of trouble chasing down a perp after he jumped out of the car and tried to escape on foot.

Good to hear that a LEO is taking care of himself ... lose the smokes and gain life expecancy!

Hang in there Smurf. I know what you are going through. I smoked for over 20 years and finally was able to quit.

1) Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking.

2) Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking ( gulp ).

3) Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines.

4) Looks like I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue.

Its 106 miles to Chicago. We have a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, its dark and we're wearing sunglasses.

Hey, psycho, we're not getting back together. Now get out of my Van Halen t-shirt before you jinx the band and they break up.

Smurf
I had smoked for 25 years before I quit, do not count the days, try to concentrate on other things or you will find it to easy to slip.
Go for a ride and stay away from gab sessions with buddies over beer. Sure as H**l, a friend without thinking will pass a package of butts and zip, you are back smoking.
I have never missed it and it does not bother me that my wife smokes.
I would sooner have her quit, but it is up to her. My mother passed away last year at 88, she was still smoking. I have a neighbour at 82 is still rolling his own as he has for 60 years. He is a chain smoker, so when I have coffee with him in the morning I tell him to turn the fan on.

My hero man! Now if only I could find the strength to do it too. (Actually just convince myself that I'm over it.)

Proud of ya!

As a non-smoker, I thank you sincerely. You'll now come to realize just how nasty that crap is and what it does to the people around you. Thank you.

Now, how do I get my foreman to stick to his guns? He's been off the wagon twice this week (that I know of).

If he has been off the wagon twice this week that you know of,,,,,that can probably translate to 4 to 6 times this week that you don't know of.

When I stop someone and ask them if they have been drinking, and they tell me I've only had one, that means he has had at least three.

If you don't have it in your head to quit, you will not quit.

If you can get him to attend the "Fresh Start Program", which is a 4 hour free class given by the American Cancer Society, he could learn alot about the effects of smoking on the body and the people around him. Also he could learn how to deal with the withdrawal symptons and an alternative method of quiting (does that need two t's?).

If you can get him to log onto a website call "Stop Smoking Atlanta", they have information on a shot that has a 99% success rate, the only bad thing about this shot is......it is over $600.00. If you stop and think about this amount, you can get your money back over several months (taking into consideration the added cost of insurance, and the cost of the smokes).

I am saving over $200.00 dollars a month by quiting (don't know if it needs two t's still). This can give me new freedom to purchase "BLING !!!!" without getting into the household budget.

I apologize for rambling, but these are things I have learned over the past
39 days, very helpful for me maybe someone else, and thanks again to everyone for the encouragement.

Use to smoke & drink, haven't smoked since 2001, have one drink once a year.

Good luck, I know it's tough but you can do it.

Every time I try to stop smoking something stressful happens. Last time I stopped smoking my wife divorced me. So it seems safer to not try to stop.
