Default You AF folks around here

I realize that their are some current and former AF guys around this board. Any of you ever stationed at Sheppard?

My service ended in 95, but came damn close to resigning about 4 years ago but didn't due to my career field (Security Police) being combined instead of split up amongst duties. Didn't want to get stuck in Wyoming staring at a door in the ground.

Where were you stationed or where are you now?

How cool! I was thinking about starting an AF thread too. I was at Sheppard for C-130 Loadmaster Tech School. I have since retrained into the Base Ops/Airfield Management career field. My assignment history (permanent duty status) is as follows:

Pope AFB, NC 1990 - 1992
Ramstein AB, Germany 1992 - 1994
Misawa AB, Japan 1994 - 1996
Vandenberg AFB, CA 1996 - Dec 1998
Osan AB, Republic of Korea Jan 1999 - Jan 2000
Yokota AB, Japan 2000 - 2003
McConnell AFB, KS 2003 - Present

So dragbar, were you LE or Security before the SFS merger? Sounds like you were LE.

Definately LE. Which even though I was stuck in Texass!, At least I was at a good base overall. The base was so good that the new nurses got told in orientation to stay away from the cop dorms..ehhe

Sheppard AFB, TX 1991 to 1995

It's kinda sad but I look through pics now and then and have trouble remembering names. Well, I remember nicknames but that doesn't help tracking people down..lol

My GF asked about somebody in a pic and all I could say was, "That's Pumpkinhead, but I'll be damn if I know his name".

Btw EZ, did you enjoy Japan enough that you wanted to go back or was that a Must go? One of my Shift Sgt's married a Japanese woman, and got sent to Sheppard. He tried for 2 years to get back there and ended up taking an early out in 95 just so he and his wife could move back to Japan.

I was at Sheppard for Crew Chief training (heavies) in late 99. Currently stationed at Travis AFB.

Dragbar, I loved every minute I was in Japan. I requested Yokota as a follow-on when I took my remote to Osan. Unfortunately, with TDY and deployments, I spent more time away from Yokota.

I used to work at Ripsaw gunnery range while stationed at Misawa. It's contract now, and I wouldn't mind having that job back when I retire.

I was in the army, but I did my advance training at Lawry AFB in Dever in 90, the AF had the best food in their chow hall, two thumbs up! But I heard they closed it down, to bad.

this is a "little" offtopic but:

i applied to the Academy in 1988 (junior yr is HS). got accepted and was going through the whole "letters from state congressman" and all that. a friend from HS that had gone 2 years before me (was valedictorian of his class) came home and we talked. he pretty much talked me out of it. he said if it wasnt for the baseball team (he was only first yr cadet to be on the team) he might not have made it. (long story)

so i decided i wanted to go to college rather than "military college" and wound up at Univ of Florida.

sometimes i wish i had gone out there. would have been a life changing experience.

My active duty was in the Navy (see the other thread) but I've been in the Air National Guard for the past 15 years. Does that count?

Don't see why not. Lets make this a total force thread. Anyone in the Air Reserve components, feel free to sound off as well.

I entered active duty in July of 97. Went to tech school at Keesler, got stationed at Keesler for 5 years, and now I'm at Scott AFB, IL.

If they had the throw up icon I would have used that instead.

both my wife and I are AF Academy grads. We've been to Goodfellow AFB, TX and Langley AFB, VA. I'm not in the AF anymore but she still is and we just got our next assignment: we're moving to Barksdale AFB, LA next May.
