| Reminds me of cletus the slack jawed yokel on the simpsons. Marge gave out those pretzel coupons and he collected 300 of them or something. ""Hey kids we're eating dinner tonight! Come on Tiffany, Heather, Cody, Dillan, Dermit, Jordan, Taylor, Brittany, Wesley, Roomer, Scott, Casedy, Tom, Clow, Max, Hunter, Candle, Kate Lyn, Noah, Sasha, Morgan, Kira, Laura, Cubert, Phil... Heeyuck!" |

I'm friends with several couples that have 8 and up kids. they are some of the closest families I know. Other children help raise the younger ones. If that is what they want more power to them. yes it is extreme, but it is extreme in a good way. | |

| i am sure that sachmo has a good point and the families are close and the children are wanted....but isnt this world overpopulated enough already? i think they should start making families stop at 2 or 3 for a few generations. there isnt going to be enough room on the earth to hold the people at some point. and anothe rproblem is, the families that are having lots of kids are usually lower class families trying to have them to get on welfare, or having them because they are not as educated or dont have enough money to use some form of birth control. then the gov wants to pass out condoms for free and teach sex-ed in schools, and everyone says "we are condoning sex to our children by doing that". they ARE going to do it...might as well prepare them and teach them. of course, some sort of natural selection or event will take place and help balance it out. maybe it has laready started? 9/11, tsunami in the far east, Katrina in New Orleans, earthquakes....hundreds and thousands die yet the population still grows. mother nature is unpredictable and seems to be getting a little mad the last few years (though 9/11 wasnt "natural" of course). are we headed for a "great flood" ? or maybe a nuclear holocaust? . | Obviously this family isn't a welfare family. Obviously they are close and having children in a positive environment. Whether the world is overpopulated is entirely subjective. Perhaps some of us are just too greedy? Perhaps if we shared our resources and worked toward a common good, there wouldn't be children dying of starvation every minute of every day. Those that have kids they can't support aren't going to concern themselves with the problems of a global society - they'll continue to get stoned and screw. As for natural selection, natural disasters don't select anything. They kill everyone indiscriminately. Also, there are six billion people on this planet. A few hundred thousand dying isn't going to amount to a hill of birth control pills. Your thoughts are deep, Pinhy, but I don't agree with most of them. I do agree with you on the teen birth control issue, though. Religion can't solve that problem.

| i dont disagree with you on this Clint. i didnt go into total detail in some of my rant and left some unspoken out there. i wasnt saying THIS family is the case i was describing. i do disagree that the world being overpopulated being subjective, maybe not totally OB-jective since there is no "finite number of people the world can hold". but our cities and roads are getting more and more overcrowded, especially in prime cities like NY, LA, and many southern cities where climates are favorable. and you touched on something i didnt go into detail on: greed. we have the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer. both within our own economy and worldwide. the "aid" the US gives help to other 3rd world countries, but what if our billionaires (not just the US but worldwide) were to share 10% of their wealth with cultures where $100 would make a man feel rich? i could go on and on....but i wont. thanks for the counter-point to open another point of view. i dont claim to be "right" but i also dont think i am "wrong" either. there is no black and white in a subject like this. . |

| BOC, "history shows again and again, how nature puts down the folly of man". We have only been top-dog of this here rock for a handful of aeons. If we don't get it right, something else will. But as long as we live w/ the Tower of Babyl syndrome, we don't have much of a chance.

| Muscle Biker ![]() | Just try to imagine having a private telephone conversation, or trying to keep any kind of secret when you've got 17 brothers and sisters all in the same house. No thanks. I need my peace and quiet once in a while. Can you imagine sorting the laundry for this family? "OK, who has the white underwear, size 7?"

| Can you picture being grandfather to 16? My Son has asked us to babysit our grandson. If he asked me to babysit 16 grandchildren, I would not be able to make enough wine to console myself. |

| Anyone ever see that old Lucille Ball movie..."Yours, Mine, and Ours"? This reminds me of that, although that was a blended family situation. She had 8 kids, he had 10 kids...they got married...18 kids!
