I wasn't sure which forum to place this in.....but any help would be GREATLY appreciated. All right. I have a 2000 Eclipse 2.4 liter GS 5-speed. I JUST passed 100K on the odometer and something strange is going on with my clutch. The clutch is not fully disengaging from within the motor. This only happens when I sit (at a redlight, stop sign etc) and hold the clutch down for 2-3 seconds or more. The RPM's stay constant and there is no strange noises, slipping or vibration of any sort; so I do not think the clutch is worn or damaged (I actually had a new transmission put in at 60,000 miles and NEVER EVER beat on my car). What it feels like is when I hold in the clutch the pedal itself does not stick and pops right out like the pedal always did but for a few moments has NO pressure behind it. After a moment of putting the car in neutral the clutch rebuilds pressure and drives just like normal. When I hold the clutch in and try to put it in gear (mainly reverse) I cannot even get it to go into gear until waiting the few seconds; putting it into 1st gear then reverse again. My first thought was the fluid is low.....which sounds like the most obvious problem. The fluid level is high and fine. My father suggested that perhaps some dirt may be on the seal and is not letting the clutch release properly. And if not; he also said my seals may be worn and need repair/replacement. My question: Is there anyway to flush out the clutch fluid and put in fresh to see if thats the problem? :If indeed the seals are worn; my father also suggested a "Kit" he speaks of that could possibly repair the problem at that or he could physically replace the seals himself. :I am also concerned with the money situation right now so I'm hoping this is more of an easy fix-it kind of thing and with my fathers experience with engines and such; is something we can fix on our own. Please leave any insightful information you may have. Thanks; Jason |
