It's not beer....It's Malt Liquor.

Ahh, October again and another round of Octoberfest beers.

A review of a few:

Spaten Octoberfest, good malt flavor, not too much, excellent spicing, has a bit of a raisin aftertaste. Very good

Victory Octoberfest, a little less malt, a mild hops bitterness, sweet fruit finish. Ok, but I've had better

Sam Adams Octoberfest, good mix of hops and malt, nice bite with the spices, not a lot of fruit which is nice. One of my favorites (and I'm not a big fan of Sam Adams)

Stegmaier Octoberfest, local brewery that's been around here a while. again a good blend of hops and malt. Less spice than most Octoberfests. Not a fruity beer, again nice. Has a great finish with no lingering aftertaste. A great product, I was really pleased.

Mine also, very tasty......

Gonna have to check to see if it's in yet. Maybe Costco might have it for a resonable price.

Wow... you Bluebloods are a little too rich for me.

1. Bud Light: I'm getting laid and she's getting the top-shelf lager

2. Keystone Light: I'm a college kid on a budget; 30 pk. for $13.00

And that's the list... Casual drinking is for the birds. Real men puke and rally.

If you want to treat yourself to an awesome beer, try "Xingu". It is a brizilian black beer made from sugar cane. It is like candy! It isn't $9-10 a 6 pack for nothing.

Just pick up a six of Samuel Adams October fest. It should be nice and frosty cold by the time I get home.

Keystone light - hmmm. that's the stuff that Coor's siad it wasn't good enough to be called Coor's light. Not for me thanks. The only way I drink Coor's light is if it's free and there is absolutely nothing else to be had.

I've never actually had Xingu, Cajun, but I have heard of it. I will definitely have to give it a try.

I like trying different micro brews and beer from other countries. Xingu is my all time favorite. It is like candy. Hummm! Today is payday!

4. Henry Weinhard's Hefeweizen :Made in Milwuakee WI Haven't had this one.
5. Samuel Adams Cherry Wheat :Made in Boston, Massachusetts - absolutely abhorant to me, too sweet

I'm a bitter beer fan personally. I love the heavier beers with plenty of hops. I do so enjoy a good pilsener, of course.
I have up there -
Carlsburg
Becks
Stella Artios

I love these beer threads, always fun to read!
Most of the reason you drink what you drink is related to marketing, accept it or not. Wanna find out what you REALLY like? Do a blind taste test with yourself/friends. This is a FUN drinking game! You'd be surprised at the results Must use beers your not familiar with, then throw in a favorite just for giggles.

My version of a black and tan goes like this:
Order whatever stout you prefer and whatever "ale" you like
Have the bartender bring the ale while the stout gets poured (don't ever accept a stout that's been rushed)
Gulp the ale in high school/College fashion
(When done correctly should take about as long to finish the ale as it takes to pour the stout)
When the stout arrives consume it moderately like one would any premium alcoholic beverage!!! (think fine wine) What a RUSH!
Don't ever put ale and stout in the same glass!!! It's sacreligious! LOL

ALL beer is good, some beer is GREAT!
Expand your horizons, try something different!!!

And, in leaving, I'll add a couple more that haven't been mentioned:

- Kalik... from the Caribbean (in the words of Borat I LIKE...)
- Bitburger... not the best beer in Germany by far, but a fine mass produced product. Think German Budweiser.
- La fin du mon... Or however you spell it, from Canada, means something like End of the world, but should be called Liquid Crack that'll have you naked, in the snow, singing indistiguishable lyrics to classic rock songs! (Or something like that!) served in liter bottles and high alcohol content.
- Presidente... the Dominican Republic (don't laugh, try it) Put it up against your favorite mexican beers in above blind taste test.

Not drinking beer, because of what it turns into in the body, is one of the funniest things I've EVER heard!!! No offense...

I L O V E B E E R ! ! !

I'll agree with you on a couple of things...
First, most people, yes, choose their favorite beers by marketing. This applies especially to the top marketed beer in the US. Especially, Coors Light, and budweiser. Coors Light is highly marketed in my area. I, personally, think it's terrible. Bud Light is worse.
I drink Yuengling Traditional Lager (America's Oldest Brewerey)as my regular beer. I have been drinking this since they brought it out in the early 90's. Wasn't really marketed until about 5 or six years after it came out.

I definitely disagree with all beer is good. There are some absolutely horrid beers on the market. I'm not sure how they get out there. Cave Creek Chili Beer is one that comes to mind. More of a novelty, I guess. Arizona beer drinkers may know of this one.

Bitburger is a good German beer that can be gotten here for about $18-20 a case. I like it and buy it every once in a while...Good mention.
Presidente is a good beer too, that's my travellin' to the Caribbean beer, it can be gotten on most of the islands...Another good mention.

I haven't seen Grolsh mentioned here, either. That is a great beer that is definitely underrated. If you haven't yet, give it a try.

Oh, yeah, there is absolutely nothing wrong with putting Stout and lager in the same glass.
Just another way to enjoy two good beers....As one.

If you ever get down this way....There's a Yuengling Brewery two miles as the crow flies from where I sit. (I hear they give out samples too! )

If you haven't tried 'em yet. Try out the Rogue lineup.

Rogue Dead Guy Ale is very good, as is:

Rogue Chocolate Stout.

Tim, they just built that brewery about 3 or 4 years ago, right? It's nice. Now when I go to Orlando or anywhere in FLA, I can get a real beer, not that Coor's stuff they keep pushing on me.

I love the Rogue. Don't forget Younger's Special Bitter...and yeah, the Dead Guy Ale is great, too. I haven't had the Chocolate Stout, yet. A couple of years ago, Sam Adams made a Chocolate Stout that was great, but I haven't seen it in a while.

It was an old Stroh's Brewery. It just kinda quietly closed, and reopened as Yuengling. It's a tough sell around here though. You guys up North have a more "open to try" a Micro-brew culture than we do.

Right now....I'm duty bound to tradition to consume as many Oktoberfest beers as I can. I search high and low...

My favorites during this magical time of year Sam Adam's (Easiest to find), and Hacker Pschorr (Best IMO...especially draught).

Of course, Michelob will be trotting out their Holiday brews. I love 'em all except the fruit flavored one...and the Honey Lager....those kinda linger after multiple cases. My guests ignore 'em, until I stop buying new ones, so they're forced to drink 'em. To me....Michelob is missing the boat by not producing Marzen (sp?) year round. What an exceptional beer! I generally stop buying kegs this time of year too...Because of all the special blends available.

If anyone comes across some of the Sam Adam's Milleniums from a couple of years ago...maybe collecting dust at your local Vinter or Spirit merchant, I'd appreciate it if they inquired about a sale on my behalf.
