Actually, here's another beer history fact. Fruited beers are really a more recent product except in Belgium. This is where a "Lambic" or "lambic-style" beer originated. They used a large amount of hops because of its natural preservative nature. In particular they used an aged, dried hops. This gave a beer an old cheese-like hops smell and a very bitter flavor. So, to cover up the bitter taste and smell, they started adding fruit. Now with all the craft brewing going on, many brewers are making what they call Lambic-style or plambic beers. In fact they are just a fruity beer. Me, I'll stick with the natural lambic. I like the bitter beer. Don't fruit the beer.

Good luck. It takes practice. You will have to ruin a few batches before you get it right. I hope you're not married, because it will really reek up the house. Let us know how you make out.

Tonight's beer night for me and the father. Any suggestions? Going to see if they have Xingto, maybe. October is over, so they should be starting the next holiday beers on tap. Oh, the anticipation....

Well, it didn't go so well last night. Not too much new. However, I did have a new Magic Hat. Called Roxy Rolles. Very good. Along the line of an American Pale Ale/India Pale Ale. Not real bitter, but a nice hoppy bite and subtle sweet hint in the background with a smooth finish. The bar needs to take the Octoberfests off the taps. Had a local Octoberfest made by Stegmaier. It was definitely starting to spoil. Didn't charge us for them even though we drank them.

My opinion, Michelob should stick to what they know. they have a decent product in Michelob and Michelob light. I don't even cair for Amber Dark. It is in my opinion a sad attempt to imitate a craft brew on a large scale. Hehe, I just spelled care, C-A-I-R. Talk about your Fraudian slip. Anyway, I haven't had Michelob's Pumpkin Spice, but I have had others and I like some, don't like others.

You should try a Marzen. That is the only reason I get excited about the Holiday Pack. They should make that year round. (Sigh) What possibly could the public that consumes the crap know?? Tasteless boors we are!! As you said earlier Chicster.....don't fruit the beer......whomsoever decided that allspice, nutmeg, and cinnamon belong in a friggin' beer recipe should be staked out sans clothing, over a Fire Ant mound, in 110 degree heat.

However, don't get too ahead of yourself. I like octoberfest beers and some of the spice you mentioned are in them. Mostly, just added flavor, just a hint. I hadn't even thought about a Marzen. Something else to look forward to over the holidays. Yeah, I like that.

I should have stressed more to the fact where you're aiming to make a beer taste like a slice of pumpkin pie. What's next Diabetic Apple Pie with Lowfat Vanilla Ice Cream flavored Lambic??
