Default Spring Maintenance

Going through the bike today, starting to get it ready for the season. Motor will need to be rebuilt or replaced at some point. It will still work for now. Anyway, got an oil change done. Still have more to do tomorrow.

BUT - I started to do a retorque (going through the nuts/bolts on the bike). Well, pipe was loose. At the rear flange and at the header bolts. The header bolts, well that is to be expected. Man, that rear section, too loose for comfort. Glad that it didn't rattle loose and have the can fall off.

Anyway, will be doing more tomorrow.

DOUBLECHECK ALL OF YOUR BOLTS!!!!!!

At least once it's done, it's done and you won't have to see it on your do list anymore!

Yeah, I had that same problem, when I hauled my bike up from South Carolina, when I removed the bike from my truck, my uncle noticed a bolt holding my air filter box just laying to the side, and the other one missing. I was about to lose my air filter assembly, good thing that was found then and not out on a ride.

There's always more work, you just work at it until you get things to an acceptable level.

Unacceptable, low air in the tire, oil is sludge, the air filter has fungus growing on it.

Acceptable, things are in place, air is in the tires, the oil looks like oil, and all the cobwebs have been cleaned out.

Btw, I like K&N air filters because they are foam and only require cleaning, never replacement.

I have two things left to do on my maintenance. Change radiator fluid and brake fluid. The latter worries me more since I never did that before.

Don't worry, it's easy. If you don't have one, look into getting a vacuum bleeder. It has a hand lever to pump fluid down to a bottle. 20 - 50 bucks. Just make sure you cover all your paint. The fluid will eat or stain paint quickly.

Blade (Bill) has a "how to" on his site for putting on stainless brake lines and he covers the basics of bleeding brakes in his write up. Good pictures too.
