| Yeah! I am. Motor bill alone will be $3,400. Ouch. Suspension still needs to be revamped too. Add a battery and tires to all that and I should be good to go. I am an idiot for doing this. - Nut

| Head: ![]() From builder: - The valve job is done and the head has been re-surfaced. ( It was warped in the center about .006in.) - The cylinders were a touch out of round so we honed .0004in. in to correct. - The piston skirt to cyl wall clearance is still well below max spec, so no worries. - In fact, all are close to .003in. clearance, which is what I would have set them up at anyway if we had done the overbore. From ME: I saw the valves. MAN, they were smoked. Real junk. Engine was setup correctly, so it was the valves themselves that failed. Kibblewhite. Should have figured. Using stock Suzuki valves for roadracing is always a good idea. Shift drum was also wasted. Oil pump had a lot of wear, and was out of spec too. Geez! Oh yeah, motor was missing a couple of bolts. MAJOR bolts. Hmmm . . . last engine builder f-ed up on a lot of things. - Nut

| $3400? Doesn't it make sense to buy a motor?

| Actually, it will be over 4K now. Have to have custom piston rings made because Suzuki does not make 1mm oversize for that year anymore. Let me ask you this, would you buy a motor off a nearly 20-year-old bike not knowing the history of it, then put it on the race track and flog the piss out of it??? I would, only in a dire, dire emergency. I've tried it before, with mixed results. - Nut

| I meant a crate motor. Can you get those for bikes? I'd have thought the cost would be about the same.

| No idea. I know you used to be able to possibly get them. I saw a shop that had a Honda 500 V-4 in a crate sitting there in the 80s. I really, really doubt that that is still possible, unless you knew someone who knew someone in Suzuki. Not to say that there aren't any around, but I don't have the time to be messing around trying to find one. A new motor I'm sure you could get though. - Nut

| Got delayed in painting the garage. Will start the assembly soon. Still need new tires too. Will wait until the bike is done before getting into that though. - Nut
