Default Alabama-Georgia M-J ride

Any Alabamians on here that want to ride and hook up with Georgian M-J members?

Half the fun is picking your own cool route to the meeting point and the other half is meeting the other cool people.

I'm Game...................However I have to have a little notice to set things up at work and home.

Like I said......I've been wanting to make a little ride to Alabama. Already been to North and South Carolina, Tennessee, Florida and of course Georgia. Been looking at a trip to Mississippi and Louisianna also.

Keep me posted and I'll try to get a couple of guys from here to go with me (if I can go).

This should wet your appetite for a ride to Bama. I believe it is the largest motorcycle museum in the world.

Barber Motorcycle Museum

I have heard about that museum, isn't it on the same property as Barber Motor Speedway ????

I'm interested as well. How about Labor day, Sept 1st? Most people should be off work. Only drawback for the day though would be high traffic depending on where we went riding.

Sept 1st would work for me. The wife will be out of town that weekend, so I wouldn't even have to get permision.

We're game if we don't have the kids that weekend.

Okay Jim, set us up with a good ride for that day. How about meeting somewhere on the southern end of the Talladega National Forest and riding north from there?

Just my .02 - meet in Lineville (or further south if you want) and take 49 to 281 to Cheaha for lunch. Then come off the mtn on 281 to Hwy 78 near Heflin.

Lineville isn't bad but Oxford, AL would be better to meet up.

Here's my thoughts:

Option 1:
Altanta to Oxford, AL: 1 hr 30 minutes.
Oxford to Barber Museum: 1 hr ($15 admission, Sat 10a-6p, Sun Noon-6p)
Barber Museum back to Atlanta: 2 hr 30 minutes

Total riding time from and back to Atlanta: 5 hours

Option 2:
Altanta to Oxford, AL: 1 hr 30 minutes.
Oxford to Cheaha State: 30 minutes
Ride around the park: 45 minutes
Cheaha State Park to Lineville: 20 minutes
Lineville back to Oxford: 50 minutes
Oxford to Atlanta: 1 hr 30 minutes

Total riding time from and back to Atlanta: 5 hours 30 minutes

As far as the date- my wife and I have 4 kids all together. She has two and I have two. Each weekend we either have all the kids or no kids. Looks like we've got all the kids on Labor Day weekend including Sept 1st. So that's not a good day for us. So the choices are for you all to do a Sept 1st trip without us or do a different date or do both. We can do the weekend of Aug 23-24th, Sept 6-7 and Sept 20-21st.

Oxford is where I live so that would be great for me.

I vote for 2.

The 6th or 20th will work best for me. Now, someone else chime in and let's get this thing on the books.

So here's the tentative plan:

When: Sat Sept 6

Route:
We all meet up in Oxford, AL and eat lunch.

Altanta to Oxford, AL: 1 hr 30 minutes.
Oxford to Cheaha State Park: 30 minutes
Ride around the park: 45 minutes
Cheaha State Park to Lineville: 20 minutes
Lineville back to Oxford: 50 minutes
Oxford to Atlanta: 1 hr 30 minutes

Total riding time from and back to Atlanta: 5 hours 30 minutes

I'd invite you all to my place but it's a 1 hr 15 minute ride for me to get to Oxford. I figure you Georgia folks don't wanna ride that long.

If the date doesn't work for you let us know and we'll see what we can do.

Sounds like a good plan to me. I'll get back with you when I can verify that the 6th is open for me to come along.

FYI - Oxford has two main exits 185/188.

Exit 185 has McDonalds, Arby's, Burger King, Taco Bell, Shoney's, Logan's, Applebee's, O'Charlies, Chineese Buffet and Captain D's. Strut's is a wing and burger place that has a bike night on Thursdays so they are very biker friendly.

Exit 188 has a Cracker Barrel, Golden Rule, Sonny's BBQ, Mellow Mushroom, Longhorn Steakhouse and an Olive Garden to name a few. Also, there are two bike shops at this exit - Bama Power Sports and Mt. Cheaha Harley Davidson.

Fuel stations are plentious on both exits.

Also, here is a link to a map of the proposed route.
