Default Riding in the GA mountains.

I'll be spending a week of vacation in the northeast GA mountains (Cleveland to be exact) with my family. My wife wants me to take the bike to do some riding while we're up there. I'm very familiar with the area, and I've seen that there are several of you guys from the north GA area. Other than the Richard B. Russell, which I know I'll be riding, what other places can you guys from up that way recommend?

US 129 north from Turner's Corner to Highway 180 east to Suches (aks: Wolfpen Gap Road), Highway 60 north out of Dahlonega is nice, Highway 17 north out of Helen, 356 coming out of Unicoi over to Highway 197 to Highway 76 to Clayton. Warwoman Road out of Clayton to pick up 28 north to the Highlands then Highway 106 West back towards Dillard.

These are some of my favorites.

That's kind of NW of Helen, GA, right? I'm about 3.5 hours west of Helen.

You know, I didn't even think about Warwoman road. I'm pretty familiar with the Clayton area, have stayed at Blackrock Mtn several times. As far as 17 goes, I'll probably ride it the whole way as I only live a few miles away from where 17 starts at down here.

I might ride over toward Dahlonega too, it's been a long time since I was in that area.

Thanks for the help. Maybe we can get together and ride sometime.

You could take the 136 off the 400 and ride up to Talking Rock. Thats a nice putt over Brunt Mountain.

Not sure how soon your tip is coming up but I just picked up a great little book "Little Black Biker Book". It covers 75 rides in North Alabama, North Georgia and Tennessee. I have already flagged several rides to take between now and the fall.

*Chattsworth to Blue Ridge - 25 miles

*Wolfpen Gap Road - Georgia's curviest road through the valley and over the clouds.

*Dahlonega to Blairsville - 36 miles over Blood Mountain (book says the road conditions are good but the ride is not to be taken lightly. This is for expert riders, as there are plenty of hairpin turns and elevated curves.)

*Cleveland to Clayton - 39 miles

*Dahlonega to Ellijay - 39 miles

These are just a few of the ones listed in the book. Check out the link for ordering information.
