I'm about .2 miles under the Sheets Gap Overlook on the Parkway. Good place to live if you love to ride. Thanks for the welcome.

You are so lucky. I go up around there the most when I head to the mountains. So many great roads. In fact, I am thinking of heading up there next weekend.

Welcome.

Looks like a great site.

I just got back from riding the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Asheville area. Absolutely a fantastic ride!! It has a lot of serious (but not radical) twisties.

In the general area, there are some tremendous rides for those who's skill levels allows them seriously radical rides. Most people in the area aren't impressed with the Dragon's tail at Deal's Gap, saying that there are other rides that are much more scenic, excellent at testing your skills and much longer than the Dragon.

The Dragon is innundated with riders on the weekends and "John Law" is everywhere! One little slip (like crossing the centerline) and they're on you like stink on a skunk.

It drives me nuts when people make such a big deal over the dragon. There are so many better places to ride.

I've gone a GA-AL & GA-FL ride. I think next would be meeting some NC riders on the parkway for a ride. Might be to late this year to organize but maybe something can be arranged in early spring?

Let me know if anyone is interested. I can bring at least 4-5 GA riders with me for sure.

Well...I moved to Wake Forest from Sylva in 1979. To Raleigh in 1984.Was born/raised in Black Mountain (15 East of Asheville), spouse is from Leicester (NW Asheville). We met at Western Carolina in the early 70's. The rest is history...
Spouse doesn't ride with me (Fraidy/fraidy) Daughter does sometimes. Mostly a solo rider. I retired in 2003 @ 52. Got my 30 in and booked outta there.

Good rides in WNC:
Down highway 9 from Black Mountain to Bat Cave.
64 from Hendersonville to Franklin.
The Blue Ridge Parkway from Cherokee to Asheville.
Highway 441 from Franklin to Gatlinburg.

I like the drive down Highway 242 from Benson to Salemburg/Elizabethtown and then on to N. Myrtle Beach. Did it many times in an MG but have yet to do it on my bike.
