Default Deals Gap run

Ok I wasn't sure what part of the forum to throw this into but i'll stick it here cause i can.. So there was the thought of a run to NC this summer by a few of us. Just wondering if there were any other brave souls that were going to join in this adventure. Trying to get this figured out so i can ask off for work. So far its me, Thundurburd, and frostbitevinnie..

This has been kicked around in the "Gatlinburg 2008" thread for about 6 weeks now, and several people have mentioned an interest in going.

According to frostbitevinnie on 3/13/2008:
Quote:
hope to leave 5/30 and arrive 5/31 or 6/1. Ride a few days then leave 6/5 or 6/6.
It looks like we would start showing up on Sat 5/31 and Sun 6/1, but that's up to Vinnie and Tricker, they started this.

Hey Vinnie and Tricker if you would rather finalize the details of this offline so to speak, send me an email or PM.

Dang. I'd seriously consider it. I'd probably have to camp some to save money.

i knew the idea was kicked around in that thread but i think its getting close to being a zombie.. so i figured put it out in the open right now and then finalize details through pm's if necessary. I knew a few others were interested..

I'm still a possible too, depending on the dates. I don't want to miss the track day I'm signed up for on June 8th.

Clint isn't that when you are going too?

Yup. I'd have to be back a day or two ahead of that. I'm going to have to get new tires on in between if I go.

My ideal schedule would be as follows:

5/30-31, ride to destination
6/1-3 ride local
6/4-5, ride home

Actually, I'd prefer to move it up a day or two and to keep it to 7 days. Originally Vinnie was talking the 23rd or 24th. A bit of butt recovery before the track day would be good.

In post #40 of the other thread Vinnie said:

Quote:
Change of plan. My son graduates 5/29 so I need to adjust to the week before or after. Probably leave 5/30 or 6/6 since it should be a tad warmer?
I don't thick Vinnie's been around today, maybe we'll hear from him tomorrow.

I still plan on leaving 5/30 and arriving 5/31 or 6/1. I would like to be back home 6/6 at the latest. I figure 2 days there, 2 or 3 days of riding and 2 days back. The amount of time there is flexible for me since I would rather stick with a group. I have already put in for vacation for this time.

I'm all for the six-day plan. Two days there should be enough, no? That is, unless we plan a day of less riding and some touristing.

I've got my family reunion somewhere east of bfe this year around this time. I'm following this thread to see what dates you agree on and if I'm free, I'd like to join you.

I pop in from time to time. I gotta keep tabs on the hot spot

I assume you'd be coming through Cincy or Lexington. Those would be almost a perfect place to catch up with you guys.

I was thinking 2 days of riding would work well. I suppose there are a lot of roads in that area to ride but there is always next year. It would be nice just to explore a little.

If anyone needs to email me I am: beanachelli@yahoo.com

Here's just a thought to throw out there for y'all.

Most of us that are thinking of making this run are from the upper Midwest, (Minnesota & Wisconsin), ShonR is the furthest away.

Deals gap is a hoot to ride, and I do want to go there again, but both times I have been there we only had two days to ride, and I'm here to tell you, you could ride 300+ mile days for a week straight and still not see all the roads in the area that I would consider eight's or better (on a scale of 1 to 10). 300 miles on those roads is a full day +.

Perhaps we should consider a ride a bit closer to home, South Western Wi is supposed to have some of the nicest twisties around, and a one way trip even for ShonR would only be one day, that would give us 4 days of riding instead of only 2.

Just a thought.

To make it easy I'm open to whatever the group decides. Strange as it may seem I've never been west of Madison but I've heard there are some nice roads.

As far as I'm concerned we could do both this summer.

As much as i'd love to put some serious miles on the bike rick has a point too.. There's a lot of nice roads in western wisconsin all along the mississippi. Granted its no twisty dealio like deals gap but would it really matter as long as your riding with people and not at work?
