Also don't forget that Iowa speed limit on 35 then 18/218 is 65 mph. WI would be 70 if I remember correctly. Going through Charles City, Waverly and possibly the Quad Cities will cost us some good time. Charles City 4 miles of 30 mph. I know for certain that making it to the Quad cities will be 8 hours in a car. A bike will take longer.

The route that you have Clint is the one I think is best. I have been that way and the roads are good and fast.

I vote for superslab!!

Since the speedo on my bike is a bit off that means 79 mph.

I really don't think we will hit any kind of traffic with the exception of the toll road in Ill. Other than that it is pretty much clear sailing.

My whole philosophy on motorcycling is that it is dangerous, but that a lot of our pain is self inflicted in a manner of speaking. People don't get training, don't have a license, don't practice, and many drink and ride. Also many of our accidents are single vehicle crashes, mostly our own fault I suppose. I was convinced that if I was smart and didn't do anything stupid I would be ok, or at least with much better odds.

Well what I did was stupid. I've been in disbelief all day wondering what to do next.

Sounds like you guys have a nice ride planned. I'm excited for you guys!

I just found this sight from RowdyRed94 today. I am a fellow Bandit rider in the Twin Cities area.

I can't wait to hear how things go for you guys. To bad I didn't find this thread earlier. I would have tried to talk you into the Wisconsin idea, capped off by the AMA road race at Road America June 6-9!

Have a safe trip, and enjoy it for the rest of us blokes stuck at home!!

Cheers!!

Get back on. I did. Of course, I was young and stupid, but I never once thought of giving it up. I'd just begun!

Thanks, I guess that's what I'll do despite what my friends and family say.

I can't believe how many times people asked me the obvious question. The answer was always, "No I'm not selling it!"

I honestly think I've risked my life to a greater degree just trying to make a living as a carpenter. I sure won't give up a favorite hobby for a little risk.

We all make dumb mistakes, the trick is to learn from them so as not to repeat them.

From what your saying, it sounds like you had yourself a little panic attack, and froze up. I'm just guessing here, but if that's what happened, than the best way to not repeat it is practice so you know what your limitations are.

I'm really sorry you can't make it Mike. Big bummer. I know I have been very careful at work lately. I am way past due for an injury of some kind.

Thanks guys. Yeah, I'll keep going. Maybe I'll be able to process this all better when I'm off the pain meds.

Crashing a motorcycle is just like falling off a horse,

It's easy to do, and it hurts.

Well, guys, I don't think I'll make the trip. I don't think this snow will ever quit, and I can't find tire chains for the Bandit.

I was wondering when one of us was going to say something about the weather.

Here in the Cities we got about 6 in last night, but it's melting almost as fast as it came down, the top of the grass is already sticking out, and the streets are mostly clear.

They are however predicting more for tonight & tomorrow.

I'm trying to focus on next week when they say we will be getting back in the 60's.

My left arm is in a cast up to the elbow. In two weeks I go to a smaller cast but after a month muscles will have weakened considerably.

Yeah, it could have been more serious. No other broken bones, elbows and knees untouched, helmet didn't even touch the pavement.

On my way into work today, they stated that MNDOT was putting sand and salt on the roads this morning I was getting really excited this past week with the cleansing rain. I even saw some street sweepers on the road the other day. Now we are back to square one

It sounds like we will have some riding weather here next week though. We should be able to put some miles on the bikes next weekend I hope.
