There's something cool about crossing the country, but I'd go either way. I had planned on making day trips or an overnighter to Wisconsin anyway.

Hmm.. Ok so just cause i'm procrastinating on everything i wanted to do tonight.. So rick has been to said location. I have not, by the sounds vinnie hasn't either nor mike. Either way you look at it.. lets say 600-800 miles of cruising on new roads to us. Clint brings up a good point in regards to something about a cross country trip. But in a way how many people can say they rode their bikes that far, met up with people and just rode for the sake of riding? I don't know any personally.

I would enjoy a wisconsin ride but i think that would be better in fall. Something about that time of year i love.

But thats just IMO

I have another long trip planed for July/Aug, I'm taking the Road King out to Pikes Peak, and if time allows the Grand Canyon, and I may take another week to ride the back roads in the Black Hills on the new DR 650, so a long ride out to Deals Gap isn't something I need to do, I would if that's what everyone else wanted, but it didn't really sound like it was written stone for anyone. Hope I didn't step on anyone's toes by suggesting SW Wisconsin.

From what I hear, there is a section down there that has been described by some as the Dragon of the North (i think it's SR-171 on the link below), and even though we might have less total miles by staying closer to home, we should get more quality miles by going that route.

Wisconsin Motorcycle Roads Look here for more info on the area.

All excellent points that I completely understand, and would go along with.

IMHO trips like these wind up being more about the company than the ride, and on the last two Deals Gap rides, I met some great people from this forum (I'm sure ShonR will agree, he was with us last year), and I expect this trip will be more of the same, so either place will be fine by me.

I was planning on western WI this summer too. Also since I get down to KY (about hours from Deals Gap) about once a month, I'll probably get over to TN this summer one way or another.

In other words I'd be happy to do either.

I did have my heart set on Deals Gap, not so much for the twisties but more of the camaraderie. I have ridden a lot of twisties in CA. and they are fun but I don't ride a sports bike, big fat cruiser. I have no intentions of tearing it up but rather just go easy and take it all in. I miss the mountains and I love the smells. So either way would still work for me but if it were up to a vote I would go with Deals Gap.

My vote would be split 60/40, 60% in favor of Deals Gap, and 40% in favor of Western WI.

Robinsvile NC is only a short ride from the Dragon, about 20 miles on a verry twisty road, and I understand they have a motel there called the "Phillips Motel" that has some verry good cottage rental rates. $125 a night for a 3 room cottage split 5 ways is only $25 each. I haven't stayed there, but a friend of mine did, and he said it was fine, he would go back again.

Phillips Motel, Robbinsville, NC 828-479-3370

Sounds great. That's why we'd need to get our s**t together and get it booked.

I call the third room.
