Now they wo't be able to sleep well for the next two weeks. Better invest in some sleep aids!!! I know everytime the night before a trip I end up staying up to all hours of the night and I am wore out the day of the trip.

Now I pack everything two days in advance where all I have to do os check the air and grab a biscuit in the morning.

I feel like such a slacker, my bike is still sitting up on the stand all tore apart, I did get the forks rebuilt with new springs & oil, but just as I was finishing up the second one, I realized something I forgot to do on the first one & now I have to take it back off, and tear it apart again. I hope the rest of my parts get here soon, I'm still waiting on the counter shaft sprocket & the rear brake pads.

If the parts don't get there soon which is the backup ride for the trip Rick?

Oh yeah,, I am looking at the Russell Day Long seat for the Strom. I really want a backrest and I cannot use Dan's backrest with a Sargent seat.

he's always got the HD.. but of course he'd have to go with no helmet, ass less chaps and have a complex to him.. saw one of those tonight... what a tool...

did i mention i envy you kids with back rests? oh well i have something to prove now that kids these days can do a 1k trip w/o one.. maybe i'll just use my tail bag as one..

I will not have the backrest yet. I have to fill out an order form and then I have to take pictures of me on the bike and then get scheduled a time in July for them to build my seat. I really hope the Russell seat lives up to the hype.

I cannot afford a Goldwing so I am going to biuld one out of my Strom instead.

Didn't you put a Sargent seat on the Strom?

Yep. I did. But the Sargent will not allow the backrest that Dan makes to bolt to the frame and not rub the seat through. The Sargent seat is 14" wide at the base where the front of the grab handles bolt to the bike.

I will probably either keep the Sargent for days when "J" might possibly ride with me again, but more than likely it will go up on eBay at a 75% cheaper price than what Sargent sells it for.

I suppose I should warn you guys that it's a very real possibility that I'll have to back out. My paychecks ended last week.

Dan's back rest works with my Sargent seat, but mine is different from yours, mines a prototype that was made on a stock seat pan.

Yep tha back-up bike would be the HD, I'd love to ride the DR 650 on those roads down there, but the ride down would be a killer, the only way would be to load it in the back of the truck and haul it down.

I got the new pads in for the rear brakes, but when I tried to install them, they didn't fit, after two hours of trying, I checked the part #, and it turns out I got brakes for Tims bike, they fit a Uly. The replacement new ones should be here today, than I just need the new front sproket. Worst case, and I'll just use the old front sproket, it doesn't look that worn.

Rowdy, man that sucks, I sure hope you can figure out a way of making it, I'm really looking forward to meeting you in person.

Yeah Clint, that really does suck. It's understandable that you want to do what's best for your family and if that involves staying home, so be it.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear the news Clint. This are hard times for a lot of people. I survived round three of layoffs, 3rd round being yesterday. Just glad to have a job right now!!!

It's not so much that the money isn't available, but that I'm not sure I'm being fair to Jolene since she's making sacrifices, too. Maybe she'll consider it a vacation to have my crabby ass gone for a while.

Just remember....

My services that we talked about before, are still free. In light of the current situation. I'd be MORE than willing to help a friend out and take one for the team!
