Default Benefit dinner/happy hour

The son of a colleague in the local builder's association is involved with a stunt group and they're holding a benefit for a friend. I thought I'd help out by posting the flyer here.

I'll assume that they only perform their stunts on closed courses.

Yep...great assumption.......

Especially the pic of the Kawi with the house and the swingset in the background. Or the guy on on the Honda (? red and black) doing a wheelie on that ribbon of asphalt stretching to the horizon with a utility pole on the side of the road....

Other than that....Noble cause. Wish I was closer. I'd attend.

Actually, most of our stunts are performed in parking lots. The one with the house in the background is on a city street, which is closed due to a parade which we were paid to perform in. The second one with the light pole and road is an industrial area that is being built and has zero traffic, so it is essentially a closed course. We all wear helmets and gear. So don't be so quick to judge...

Judgemental?

Me sir?

No way.

I wasn't judgemental. Judgemental would be affixing a judgement to what I saw before I completely looked over your website (squidwheelies dot com), and before I commented to Red's post. If you're offended by my comment I apologize, one can only infer from the flyer and pics on the flyer a reasonable assumption of non-closed course activities. Which in itself is a discussion of semantics. Your definition of Closed Course and mine are probably not that far off in their meaning, but not close enough where we'll see eye to eye. My definition of a Closed Course doesn't include a piece of property that just doesn't happen to be in use at the time you practice for your shows. My definition of a Closed Course doesn't happen to be the back of a wharehouse on a Saturday or Sunday. My definition of a Closed Course involves signing waivers, disclaimers, insurance documents and the like. A safety crew on retainer in addition to an ambulance.

If you're paid to do a show on a public street....Awesome! I'm all for it. One can reasonably assume that the promoter is handling the necessary permits, insurances, barriers for crowd control, and having some provisions for safety on hand. That said, I mentioned before, I didnt' just make a wild statement without checking the website that you endorse, or run, or whatever it is that you do for them....and the following video pulled from the pages of the website, refutes your claim of closed courses. Again, a High School parking lot on a Saturday or Sunday is not included in my definition of a closed course. Nor is a public road with eighteen wheelers on it. The individuals depicted may or may not be part of your immediate crew, but you are promoting them on your website. The mere presence of which, implies that you are affiliated, and endorse their behavior. Which in turn, could possibly imply that you and your immediate crew engage in the same activities.

Up and Coming

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy the hell out of what you guys do. And I understand that in order to do what you guys do. You have to practice where you can. You guys may or may not have the cash to properly rent out facilities to practice properly (Now if I were to say that you definitely "didn't have the cash"....then that would be passing judgement), and if you did, it probably wouldn't make a whole hell of a lot of fiscal sense to do so for the pittances you are probably paid for your appearances and shows. I tip my hat to you for trying. All that said, at the end of the day you judged me.

[Virtual handshake?]

We can agree not to agree on some things, and we can agree to be gentleman to each other correct?

Red face

agreed. our ideas of a closed course differ tremendously, i guess my definition of a closed course is pretty much anywhere we won't get busted...

as for the site, i run it all myself and have zero web site building experience prior to this and posted up whatever anyone would send me.

It's all good man! Glad you're here!

Too funny about practicing anywhere where you won't get busted!
