| I just bought my first bike a couple of months ago and im having some problems. it is the california model so there is a bunch of emissions stuff on it. it died on me i noticed the seperator was broke so i got a new one and rebuilt the carbs. now it wont get over 6000 rpm and is not very responsive at all. It starts normal but idles a little rough under 2000. this is my second time rebuilding a carb ( first time was on a dirt bike) im wondering if any one had any hints or tips for me. i put it together with the oem kits. i am a auto tech so i have knowledge of engines but being 23 years old, not alot on carbs. thank you for any one that could help me.

| Welcome. Please fill out your profile. There are a lot of factors to consider. First, tell us more about the bike. Aftermarket air box or exhaust? What led you to do the carb work in the first place?

| In my experience, main jets aren't adjustable except by replacement with different sizes. Are you sure you're not talking about the air screw? Yours must be different otherwise. Blade or GSXRNut will be able to help you more. Edit: Is this your carb? Ron Ayers Motorsports - 1990 ZX-6

| Idling at 2K is to much, which make me believe there is a problem with your low fuel circuit. First you need to make sure there are no vacuum leaks, since I really do not have the piticulars on your bike, I believe that the air/fuel screws should be set around 3 turns out. What you will need to do is get a manual that has all the settings. I would double check every thing from jets sizes (all of them), float settings, air/fuel screws and throttle slide free play. Also you might have some bad emoulsion tubes and/or needles. If you are missing any parts of the carbs, including hoses, I would replace them. Once that is done, you need to check for vaccuum leaks. You could be missing a or have a bad vaccuum cap or a cracked or broke vaccuum hose.
